    Critics Attack COD4

These guys are saying that the greatest game ever, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, is on the list of seven games that Parents should not let their children play.
If parents could actually make their children realize what is real and what it fake, we won't have crazy 17 year olds walking into a police station and killing police officers like it GTA Vice City.

We work in the dark, to serve the light. We are Assassins.

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

Ok, first, that was three words, not one.

Second, calm down. They're right: it's an "M" rated game, so technically nobody under 17 should be playing it. But these kind of lists are more geared to parents of 7-13 year olds.

It reminds me of being in Best Buy about two months ago, and watching some lady pick up 300, and ask her 2-yr old boy "want to watch this with mommy?"

Stuff like this site just provide guidance to parents who are looking for it. They're not going into stores and yanking copies off the shelves. And none of this has anything to do with your example of a 17 year old taking on a police station.

my concept of this is that parents should individually choose what they're children can/cannot play, not the government. Of course, the problem is that some parents dont care. If a sixteen year old can drive a car, they should be able to purchase games at a store. I am aware that this part isnt really on topic, but just expressing my thoughts.

My opinion as a 16yearold on M games is really just... it doesn't matter. For example, T games, even some E games have online capacity.. And I know it says game experience might change with online play. I have many T games and they could be rated X with this online play.

Another example is that almost every guy at my school plays/has played halo1.2.3. All rated M. Even with halo 1... i was like 12 or 13. And almost everyone had played it.

I think people are a little bit more worried about the problem with the whole violent games thing, you really have to be crazy or just really dumb to kill people because you killed people in a game. Most of us can draw the line between fun and reality.........

If parents would be actually parenting the children they are responsible for then maybe we wouldn't need ratings. I have an 8 year old that watches me play and plays SP/MP CoD4 but I'm also teaching and parenting him. The single most important thing is that he knows the difference between right and wrong and I've met alot of adults that don't know that. I don't think some parents take enough time to know whats going on in kids heads nowadays and to actually parent the children.

I watched R rated movies when I was a little kid... and in the 80s an R rated was a lot more then what it is today....

I'm with Rand on this one. It's not really a critical attack, they're just saying it's too bloody for little kids.

I don't have a problem with this type of list - it's just there to inform parents a little bit more during the holiday season. However, it's a little sad that such a list needs to exist. In an ideal world, parents would just be more involved and know what kinds of games their child has the maturity to play.

I won't let my boy play this game... but that's just me.

It doesn't have foul language.. err.. umm.. mostly...
But the gore is a little out there.

My choice to what he can and cannot play, and this isn't one I want him to
play. I saw a 10 year old playing yesterday, so it is parents who
                  either condone or permit.

I was thinking about this yesterday, in MP there is almost no gore.

I have not seen SP tho ..

                        Ahhh...

This one is right in my wheel house, with Brandon 13 years old and all.
I gotta say the rating is ridiculous. I understand why its a " M " but there should be some sort of difference between the violence.

A violent war based game is different then a violent " GTA " type game IMO !! To this day the GTA type game is NOT allowed in my home.

I know I know thats hypocritical to say the least, but running around beating up nuns with a baseball bat is not the sort of game I want my kids playing. They can shove grenades down the throat of the enemy troops but nuns are off limits

There should be a different rating for war type simulation and street type violence.
Then again, if your children cant tell the difference from real life violence and video game violence then there are much larger issues to deal with !!

for the record, back in the day....... I loved playing kingpin and postal it was an interesting change of pace.
