EVGA RMA results - OMG, SWEEEEEET !!!

So I had finally gotten around to RMA'ing my eVGA 7900GT card, this after I made the initial RMA inquiry back in APRIL, so yeaa, I was taking my time. The card was a great card .. I didn't bother to OC it since it was already a KO Edition card, but starting with Company of Heroes, I would get terrible graphics tearing on the screen, which would get worse the longer I played. This happened on newer games that stressed the card, so TF2 was ugly as well.
Anyhoo, I just now received the eVGA RMA box back, opened it, and what to my surprise did I find inside but a 7950 GX2 card !!!! This is basically TWO 7900 series cards crammed onto one PCB, so needless to say I was

Darth had mentioned to me that eVGA was doing this, so it wasn't a complete surprise, but I fully expected a 7950, not a GX2 !!! This confirms why I continue to recommend eVGA cards, and at this point now own 3 of them, with plans in the Spring to possibly purchase 2 8800GTs to SLI.

If you have an eVGA card, you are set for the lifetime of the card. If you are buying, you should give them a very hard look. I'll post pics tonight once I get home.

I love when they do that. They have no exact cards in to RMA so they send you the next best thing which can only be up, not down. I bought my 8800GTS just in case i have to RMA it.

are you SURE you wouldn't rather just send me the gx2, since i was right and all, and just live with your volt modded gs combo in sli?

Wow, this just gets better and better:

The GX2 card is a 512mb card (on each core, 1gb total RAM) instead of my 256 7900GT ... and, it offers the built in HDCP chip that no other 7x00 series cards offer.

PS - I do realize that only 512mb is available, so in essence it doesn't have 1gb RAM to offer for gaming.

The most interesting part of the equation here is that I am card swapping these video cards. The PC that used to run the 7900GT is an SLI board so I'll pull the 7900 GS from another rig and wait for Kyler's card to get to me to SLI.
But here's the wrinkle: My bench rig is running an Asrock SATAII 939 board that is supposedly compatible with the 7950 GX2 series. Reading up on it, the board may only identify ONE of the two cores, so that hampers the purpose of the card if that is in fact true.
I've updated to the newest BIOS for that board, as I'm also ditching the Opteron 144 socket 939 chip in it and installing an AM2 Black Edition 5000+ chip, so that PC will be a fire breathing beast when I'm done with it.

Exactly the reason I only buy EVGA video cards. I don't even look at the price of other brands...

Yea, EVGA is great with their warranty and upgrade policies - just recently upgraded (for free) my old 8800GTS 320MB card to a new 8800GT card (regular edition, but I flashed it with KO edition's BIOS which worked perfectly). I just wish that they would change their shipping policies - because of their slow shipping and "signature on delivery" requirement (which made me miss the delivery since noone was home at that moment) the shipping of the replacement card took about 2 weeks

Welp, I have an eVGA 7800 GS (AGP) that's been funky from day one that I need to RMA, and never got around to it. Maybe I should do that BEFORE I upgrade my system & purchase a card, because they MIGHT send me a pciExpress card for my new system?

Storm, if you can do without a PC for a week or so (to give you an idea, I sent my card in via UPS Priority - $24 shipped on a Tuesday, and it arrived at eVGA in TX on Thursday and I had the card back the following Wednesday) you'd be in for a nice surprise once you get your RMA back.
As I understand it, eVGA just doesn't have stock on the older 7900 cards, so its the luck of the draw, (which makes sense as eVGA had a HUGE firesale maybe three months ago offering up hundreds of cards that were speculated to be either Step Up cards or ones that had passed their QC after RMA).

Th3st1ck, you had an even better experience than me (yea, secretly I was hoping for an 8800 too, but I still give props to eVGA) but I can't do much with even my new card until I get a sufficient power supply. The existing Thermaltake 420w unit in there offers a measly 18a on the +12 rail, so that won't do. I ordered an Ultra 500 X-Connect that should be here on Wdnesday.
