    Merry Christmas to me...maybe

Today, being Christmas my mom got me a 250GB external Hard drive. Woot.

But She also got my brother and I both Radeon 1050 Graphics Cards. I think it is a 1050.
Now my questions is how can I find out what card I am running now and if would be an upgrade or not..

    Thanks,
    Baller

This program should tell you everything about your video card:

      Thanks,
      Running: NVidia GEForce 6150 LE
      Clocking: 425 MHz

So now would that 1050 be any significant upgrade?

      Thanks,
      Baller

Ouch Baller! that 6150 LE is usually an onbaord video card(some models are after market.) are you SURE its a 1050? in either case, NIETHER is an upgrade for gaming. for internet browsing & word processing, they are great. beyond that, they both work with vista, but neither are anyware up to snuff to run the Aero interface, or game in any sort of fashion with any of the newer games.

An 8800GT is what you want.

An 8800-anything is better than what you have right now. And better than just about everything on the market actually.

As for the 1050....TBH, I hadn't even heard about it till I did some digging. Apparently, its just a rebadged Radeon X300, which means it will help your gaming performance about as much as putting a "Type-R" sticker on your car helps it go faster. In other words, Not at all

I really loathe this marketing crap nVidia and ATI pull with their older cards. It muddies the market for PC gaming, and creates a lot FUD surrounding the platform in general. In all honesty, getting a good PC gaming rig isn't that difficult or expensive. However, the barriers these companies put up with all these "good looking" cards means the vast majority of consumers gets suckered into buying absolute garbage under the pretense of getting a good deal.

If you care AT ALL about PC gaming, both for now and in the future, then the only cards you should be considering at this point are the 8800 series and the Radeon 38XX series. With the 3850 starting for well under $200, there's really nothing else to even consider if you honestly want to be a PC Gamer. Anything less, and your just treading water at best.

Personally, I like my purchases to keep me ahead of the curve as much as possible, rather than always behind. But maybe that's just me
