Nice find Piggy! Just had a good read and tbh i'm nowhere near as impressed as xbitlabs.

    Next stop, Nehalem.

Thanks for the linkage I don't have time to read it now but it seems interesting. I also added Xbits to my RSS subscription.

Yea I've just been waiting to upgrade. And I think this is the step to do it.

I just need to figure out what MB and if I can use 800mhz DDR2 memory.

Ever thought about buying one of the Conroe chips when the prices drop to clear stock?

I have. But this is my main system I work from also. So 6-10% is worth it. I work with large cad files.

I just got my PSU for the computer today. I'm buying components when they go on sale right now. But the CPU, MB, and Memory will have to be a purchase at once.

So far. January is the only thing I've seen. Original date was suppose to be the Jan. 9th.

I can't see it being January at all now. Probably Feb-Mar.

I still don't think they're worth it. Unless of course, they come out priced lower than the current C2D range.

I saw the 20th kicked around somewhere ..

At the bottom of the this article it says that desktops with these processors will ship this month. I don't know if that means that they will be available to home builders or not.

those chips are going to be delayed due to a respin of the silicon that i mentioned previously. feb-mar timeline.

The quad cores yes. But the dual cores they say Jan. from what I'm seeing.

Here's my take on the situation:
The new duals will be out on the 20th. That is fairly consistent based on several sites.

The quads are delayed until mid-late February, so that may still float a few weeks here or there. Everyone is looking at getting a quad to upgrade from their duals, so if you thought the search for an 8800GT was fun, wait until you try and find a quad chip at a good (think close to retail) price.

The Yorkfield (the fastest quad chip with a 1600fsb, the rest are 1333) will be further delayed again, so I'm guessing late March on that chip.

If you want a best bang for the buck, the 8400 looks great for a dual and the 9450 for a quad. At $183 and $316 respectively, you should hit 4ghz on air cooling (possibly even stock cooling and voltages).

Cain, your 8500 should be out by Jan. 20, which is the date you listed. I've seen a reserve list price on the 9450 on Chumbo.com with a price of $355, but obviously not in stock .. its only a placeholder image with specs listed.
