    What runs on startup

    Hey everyone,
Simple question for a big problem.

My band teacher (of all people)...[who happens to be like the nicest and my fav. teacher in the world] told me there was a program you can run via the Run box on the Start menu that allows you to change what runs on startup of the computer.

So my question is...does anyone know what that Run Command is?

    Thanks,
    Baller

    Start>Run

    Then type command

Then to fix your startup problem, just type Format C:

    ok ok

The program you are thinking of is msconfig. It holds a lot of startup information and other juicy windows tidbits in one easy to dialog box. Note that each time you use msconfig, your next windows restart will remind you that you used it, and while this is annoying its normal. Feel free to uncheck any programs in the startup section that you don't need, just remember that some programs like antivirus run things on startup, so trying to screw with those might give you problems. Better to leave it alone unless you know you don't need it. Or you could do the trial and error approach, though there's no guarantees that won't screw things up too.

And always remember your #1 friend on the internet

ms config is handy, i use it all the time to check if an issue is start up related, i just remove anything I know is not needed or is slow to start.
and tada startup times increased ten fold

I'm not insane. I'm just overwhelming!

nlite is good for fixing those issues at installation by just not installing them! that and burning the CD key into the cd so if your like me losing the box isn't a problem.

ms config is a good one after the os though. funny. one of the questions on a recent m$ survey had to do with how to start that. lol.

then you need to use it more and learn to ask the right question

a google search for "remove startup programs" yields this page

              http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...artup+programs

a quick scan of the links on page one shows one with a MS addie

              http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314488

              from there it's just reading.
