So if I get the idea...MS will block you from downloading and installing SP1 if they determine it has driver issues with devices on your system? I'm not sure I like MS having that much access, information, and ability to determine things for me, even if I'm not a Vista user :P

Hopefully SP1 will fix more than has been discussed in the past few months though, XP is still looking a hell of a lot better to me.

      It's too late for that!
Microsoft Genuine Advantage(there's an oxymoron if I every heard one) used to "phone home" periodically with information from your PC. People went nuts about it, and after a few months M$ relented and offered away to determine that you had a "genuine" copy without installing it's spy-ware. If you ever ran Genuine Advantage before this was released, you're already sending M$ more information than you probably want them to have.

I resisted installing it until it was absolutely completely necessary cause I knew they were information gathering. I'm assuming I don't have the M$ steal your info version, but not positive.

From what I've read MS is looking towards a subscription type system for OS's. Release a 'brand new' OS every 4 years, like XP to Vista with an incremental release ever 2 years, say SP1 for Vista. And then they plan on making you pay a fee yearly, for which you will receive the updated OS entirely through the net. Lovely picture, eh?
