    MSI brand alright?

While still shopping around for 8800's, I found this one, it doenst come with a game or anything, but that aftermarket cooler looks really promising, plus the newegg reviews seem to be very high

Is there any problems with an off-brand like MSI? I'm used to XFX, eVGA, BFG etc....

Plus theres a rebate so after shipping you only pay about 205 bucks...not bad I say

MSI offbrand ??? Not at all .... they are a big playa in the mainboard market, and you're fine with the MSI unless you value a warranty that is better than average.

I prefer eVGA or XFX based on their Step Up/lifetime warranty and double lifetime warranty respectively, so keep that in mind, but based on initial reviews, the 9600GT OC cards look very competitive until you start gaming on a 22" LCD at native resolutions.

huh ok, could you point me to that 9600 review?
      EDIT: found this page:
      http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=6340

I was browsing the XFX site today and they had a little advertisement for the 9600 GT I think it was. I didn't think much of it, but now I may

      I run a 19in LCD @ 1280x1024. I would like to step up to a 22 WS eventually.

What do you think about the 8800GTS 512 cards? I like the OCing potential with the large cooler however this MSI card (GT) seems to have a nice one too....

        Reviews of the 9600GT:

The GTS cards are based on the newer G92 core, so they will be the fastest card that you can get that won't break your budget. The 8800 Ultra and GTX are faster still, but well over $450+ for those cards.

It all boils down to what you want to spend .... if its OK to go over $250, then go for the GTS. The GT is very close in performance to the GTS, but once you jump up to a display resolution over 1600x1200, things get a bit dicey on the GT and GTS cards.

Note: Any game other than Crysis is fine for a resolution under 1600x1200. What one person finds playable may not be for another gamer, so do some research before buying and plan ahead for your next display upgrade.

I've had a couple of MSI video cards. the first one was a GF2 GTS to give you an idea of how long theyve been in the video card biz. I've also used a LOT of there motherboards in costumer systems.

Well, I want to play the latest games, which includes Half Life 2 Ep 2, Crysis, COD4, World in Conflict etc etc

If a 8800GTS 512 would help versus a 8800 GT 512 then I'd shell out the extra 50 bucks for the GTS

Keep in mind I play at a basic 1280 resolution

MSI are a good brand imo. The only thing that seperates brands is their warranty offers and after sales support.

                MSI Brand - Good.

I've had no problems in the past when I used to build 2 - 3 computers a year for myself or friends.

Asus and Giga were quirky for me.
Probably isolated incidents, but it made me lean toward MSI as my preferred.

GTX is not a waste of $$... Ive had both GT and GTS cards and they compare nothing to this particular GTX because it is their overclocked version below is a site thats shows better info on the card...newegg blows

yes I know it beats the GTS and GT, but look at the price you're paying over the GT! It's insane!!! You gotta factor in the priceerformance ratio!!

I'm saying for the med-high end bargain shopper the GT is the way to go!

and Im sayin I know where u commin from...however...as someone whos bought these cards for numerous systems...spend the xtra $$ because in the long run u will get more out of it. This card will outlive the GT for a much longer period of time. I even have a 8800gtx Water cooled for a system I am building for a client and I am seriously considering gettin ity for mahself....and that is a $800 CDN card
