    new computer

I'm thinking of upgrading my computer to maximize my COD4 experience. Right now I'm playing with a Pentium 1.4 Ghz with 512 MB RAM and an ATI RAdeon 8500. Should I upgrade the processor, the video card, or both?

    Thanks in advance,
    Nomer

Just kidding. Just seeing if you're reading.

Actually, a friend of mine wants a gaming comp, but can't afford the custom PC manufacturers prices, so he's stuck getting a Nomer PC, where our motto is, "If it breaks, I'll fix it...................if I have time."

My questions to everyone is :
Anyone game at 1920x1600 or above (his target), and if so do you HAVE to SLI or Crossfire........................
Anyone have the ATI 3870x2 and do you like it?

    He's going Intel processor -> 45nm e8400 or quadcore?

which motherboard should i get if he goes SLI with above processor? We may try a little air overclocking so keep that in mind.

Total budget for him is $2000..........

With my research I was thinking
45nm e8400 with ATI 3870x2 with a mb that'll support 2 of them if he eventually needs another to keep up with videogames.

He upgrades every 3 years or so............

He is buying it for his office office, so it is pretax dollars (which is why he can spend $2000)

Thx for tips and ideas in advance,
    Nomer

Sorry about broken posts, here's more info

Total cost $2000 and he'll spend $500 of it on monitor.

More questions, windows XP or Vista? If Vista, 32 or 64? Are all games made in 2007 and later Vista64 compatible?

My system is slightly taxed running XP on a Athlon 6400 with 2GB RAM with a Radeon 2900XT.

I'd jump all over this deal:

        http://www.tigerdirect.ca/email/ca/e...?CMP=ILC-FPM04

Then you need a case, SATA Hard drive, and one or either two video cards. You'd be set then.
