    question for cain and others

What do you guys think about having a TF2 server when it comes out?

    #2
Many factors come into play when a game comes out to see if it will be hosted here.

Personally, I could care less as I don't plan on buying the game unless its hugely different from the other FPS games out there now.
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

I would like to try it out and see. It looks like a fun game but with so many new games out there it's hard to tell which one will be the next best thing.

As MP games go, TF2 is definitely one of the more unique offerings out there (at least from a major studio, not counting all the wacky mods out there ).

Team Fortress is sort of the grand-daddy of class-based games. The original team that made the mod for Quake 1 was hired by Valve to make TFC. They then they went to work on TF2, which is finally coming out only a scant 8 years later

The game will probably not appeal to everyone, as its a fairly wacky and over the top in both action and gore (gibs gibs GIBS!). The art style is definitely the most unique of any game out there, its quite similar to the look Pixar achieved with The Incredibles. Its also a pretty fast game, which will appeal to those that are used to Deathmatch, TDM, ONS, but less so to those that are into tactical, realistic shooters.

If you do a Youtube or Google search for "TF2 Gameplay", you'll find several good videos out there showing what kind of gameplay to expect from the game. Its definitely team-focused and balanced, as no one single class will be able to pwn all others.....everyone has a complimentary role.

Here's a real quick synopsis of the classes. All this information is out there and readily available, but this should help you decide how unique of a game you think it is and how interesting it is to you.

Scout - Fastest class, weak weapons, decent melee
Soldier - Most well-rounded, rocket launcher, shotgun, grenades? Can rocket jump to higher platforms.
Demoman - Grenade launcher, demo packs
            Pyro - Flamethrower, CQB Specialist
            Sniper - 'nuff said
Spy - Can disguise himself as the enemy, cloak and backstab - weakest offensive class
Engineer - Builds turrets, supply depots and teleporters - also has shotgun
Medic - Medic gun that heals friendlies, also has like a nailgun. Can also go invulnerable after healing a certain amount of damage (makes one other player invulnerable as well)
Heavy Weapons Guy - Big Huge Gun guy, also has the most health of any class in the game.

            Hope that helps

Then you don't need any help from me.
Speaking of 'cartoony' fps games, I really enjoyed the "No One Lives Forever" series. Really only played single player, but it was loads of fun. I will give this one a chance.

Well, I just broke down and preordered. Playing the free HL2-themed version of Peggle right now, so addictively fun

                    Just wish it was longer

                    TF2 Monday for me

So many options, so many new games coming out. Once they do, I'm sure there will be a frantic wash of forum posts to pick this game or that for Cain to host. Although TF2 looks like fun, at least viewing the vids, it may have a limited following.

One of my employee's was all excited about one game that came out. He said it was Awesome, Fun, and yada yada yada. Turns out that you must group to get ANY rewards or quests done, all dungeons. No lone wolf, no singel man quests, and the maps and mobs per level were the same, just a mob that hit harder on the next level up. BORING. So he changed his tune after a couple of weeks and said to leave it alone.

Once we commit to a game, we will put everyting into it. We would like to make the correct choice for the majority of the Lair to have fun for an extended period. Lots of stuff "Looks" good, but the proof is in the pudding.

The original Team Fortress was the first Player Class Based Game.

It started the Player Class Revolution, with thinking like that I would expect cool things from this game...... 7 years in the making

A nice change of pace, go with the cartoon graphics and maybe put most of your concentration on actual game play YET ANOTHER REVOLUTIONARY WAY OF THINKING
