    Elderscrolls- Morrowind, Oblivion, or Meh?

I'm a fan of the game, and though it was only at Morrowind that I jumped in, I am in perpetual awe of it as a game.

Both are superb games, but Oblivion is sublime, one of the best role playing games ever made--not only for the innate nature of the game, but also for the shear scope of ability to mod the thing. Put the right mods on it, and you've got an awesome interface, map, and new goodies to explore.

I dunno- I thought Morrowind was so much darker, that there was a much more dreary value to it.

I never really failed as much in Oblivion in comparison to how much I could in Morrowind.

Oblivion wasn't as real to me from the standpoint that they made it too easy to meet certain goals or expectations, whereas in Morrowind you could really screw up and miss out....

I dunno- that kind of element of real world decision making is what makes me like certain games no matter what kinds of bugs there could be.

Ah, Oblivion. The game I love to hate to love.

A brilliant technical achievement, vasts amounts of gameplay, fun customization possibilities and visceral combat.

A brain-bludgeoningly dull game, with disjointed and meaningless quests, idiotic level-scaling, retarded conversation system and an empty feeling world.

In my opinion, Oblivion teases with brilliance, but shies away from doing all that is required to make it truly epic. I know PC mods can alleviate some of the issues with the game, like the terrible inventory screen, level-scaling and an empty feeling world. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough to push me past the totally disjointed and isolated storyline/quest system, the sameness of nearly every NPC in the world (5 voice actors? REALLY? For the ENTIRE kingdom? ), linear conversation system and the anti-Roleplay minigames. I wanted to like this game, but every time I try to get into it, boredom quickly overtook me.

I hope.....oh god I hope with every fiber of my being that Fallout 3 does not emulate Oblivion when it comes to all those things that made it less than perfect. Fallout 3 has the pedigree, the technology and the potential for greatness. Please, Please, Please Bethesda, don't screw it up

You have to basically pick up OOO or MMM (or both), which are comprehensive mods for Oblivion. They greatly help with level balancing, and add a slew of other options, questing areas/dungeons, and other goodies. They fix what's most obviously wrong with Oblivion.

+1. OOO is a great mod that improves a lot of gameplay mechanics.

I have to go with Oblivion over Morrowind. I enjoyed Morrowind and put a lot of time into it, but the combat, magic and stealth system were better in Oblivion. I wasn't a huge fan of the "dice roll to see if you hit" the enemy when your weapon clearly connected, and likewise with the sneaking system. Oblivion felt more realistic when it came to combat and stealth. Allowing the player control attacks and blocking/dodging was a lot more engaging than how Morrowind emulated it.

I've put many hours into Oblivion, and it's a great game when you want to take a break from online gaming.

Taking the words right out of my mouth.

If Oblivion seems too easy, OOO makes it more open-ended, allowing for any monster of any level to pop up regardless of your own level. In Oblivion, monsters level up as you do, meaning there is never a real varying degree in difficulty. With OOO, you'll find some good challenges.

Oblivion is a great game; Morrowind was amazing, as well, but the only thing I truly miss from Morrowind was the exploration. For some reason, Morrowind seemed larger (though I think Oblivion is technically larger) and more diverse in landscape. I do not miss the overly simplistic combat, though. I played as a mage 99% of the time on Morrowind because the fighting bored me.

For some reason, I can play as a single character much longer on Oblivion than Morrowind. On Oblivion, I typically reach mid-twenties or thirty before starting anew, which is far beyond what I did in Morrowind. I think I only got one character past level 20 on Morrowind.

I really, really tried to like Oblivion, but it just couldn't hook me. I kept losing interest about 4-5 hours in, rerolling another character, and then losing interest again.

Ok, I am speaking on the 360 version here.
So, before I even started playing, I turned my difficulty up from the standard 50% to about 55%, and there were some monsters it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to kill. I would have to have had hundreds of health and stamina potions to do so. I completely forgot I changed the difficulty, and I was watching my friend play his file on his box, and it was WAAY easy. So we started talking and I remembered that I changed the setting. He played around with it, and even moving it a very small degree such as 1% makes a MASSIVE difference in the difficulty.
But I voted Morrowind. I hated the teleporting in Oblivion, it made it WAAY to easy. Half of the hours you put into your Morrowind file was going from one place to the next and going into all the random tombs and dungeons along the way.
And becoming the Nerevine(sp?) was awesome.
                        Damn ashlanders.

Morrowind with Oblivion graphics annd fightingg system would be AMAZING! I would have to say Morrowind, purely for the amazing storyline and depth..
I thinkk Carbon said a while back that Oblivion is a mile wide and a foot deep, Morrowind is a mile wide 10 feet deep

OOO for oblivion is amazing (along with a few mods I made )
I used to spend alot of time moddingg oblivion and making character models.... people loved my stuff

Too dang boring. Alot of thingas are good but most quests/story was too repeatative and I ended up selling the game a few day after I played. But I did manage to beat it.
