    Age restrictions going too far?

Had a laugh at this one.

Supermarket staff refused to sell alcohol to a white-haired 72-year-old man - because he would not confirm he was over 21.

Check-out staff at Morrisons in West Kirby, Wirral, demanded Tony Ralls prove he was old enough to buy his two bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Mr Ralls asked to see the manager who put the wine back on the shelf.

if it looks like they could have made the wine 40 years ago ... let them slide

That's really unusual. Although we don't sell alcohol at our Target, it's still written that we don't need to card anyone who looks over 35.

It's most likely the law to ask. It's not their choice. Not checking ID could really get the company in trouble, and isn't worth it in my opinion.

It's not the law that you have to ask, it's done for the safety of the store so they're not fined for selling to a minor. In this case if the guys was obviously that old, I don't know what the problem was, unless they just wanted to be a pain in the rear about it.

i used to be a cashier in a supermarket...yes card ppl who don't look at least 35 years of age but as well, the manageer usually requests that we would check id on elderly every now and then b/c they not might not have it but they shouldn't be driving without it and there r other reasons as well. but mainly it's just in case of emergency. i do find it dumb but that's what my boss said. so i had to do it twice a week. but i would tell them y i had to so they wouldnt put up a hissy fit!

They can do wonders with stage makeup nowadays. Just ask our resident Thespian all about it.

How can they refuse to sell wine to a guy who is older than the wine itself?

I worked at a supermarket before going blue and to be honest, the cashier had to be a prick to do something like that. There are tell-tell signs of when somebody that isn't of age is going to try, or is trying, to purchase alcohol. I've had to deal with it lots of times back in the day. Never fun, and usually ended up being cursed at by the kid trying to buy it.

I think it's kinda funny when I get someone who probably just turned 21 asking for my ID.
