Long story short- get used to it. This is 4 of 5 new releases that are mainstream in popularity that will contain it.

The numbers are in and you will be subjected to it.

You guys beat me to the punch on this. I found out last night from same website. I was going to install it on my work computer to play during lunch.

You guys didn't know it has SecuROM? I saw a thread right here saying "Fallout 3 SecuROM details" and is SecuROM really gonna stop hardcore fans from installing? I doubt it.

Windows 7 will probably have Sucurom built into it !

I'm no pirate, but I am picky about my games. They are forcing me to re-evaluate my game purchases just because I don't believe they have a right to add their toys onto my PC.

PS - yes, that misspelling was on purpose too !

Hey guys, I thought I'd chime in.

As we said before, it is very similar to how it worked with Oblivion. We use a disc check at launch. For Fallout 3, we use SecuRom to perform that check, only at launch, and that?s it. There is no online authentication, no limited number of installs, none of those other aspects. Nothing runs in the background while you are playing the game.

Anyone having difficulty with the installer should run the Setup.exe directly off the disc and that should eliminate any problems you might be having with the install.
Can anyone confirm this? No system tasks running in the background?

The only way I was able to discover it was through UAC. I think what it will take is to build a seperate PC for music and stuff if you want to avoid all this crap. I have a lot of non DRM music that I bought over the years and some free stuff so anything that sniffs out hardware profile is a bit scary. I wonder if an external burner would go undetected with this stuff?

Anyway I love the game so I guess I need to deal with it.

And that's what makes it most sad - we are conditioning ourselves to admit that there is no alternative to DRM and just suck it up and accept it. I feel for ya, Duke.
I do hope that the DRM debacle is over and done with in the near future, but as everything moves to being online, (cloud networking FTL) we will see more of it in our apps, so why not our games as well?

I'll just start my older games in offline mode, which seems to be what I still enjoy when given the chance.

Well I'm unable to run the SP version of Crysis without being online. I don't know if I can change this or nut but the reason I play SP game is for the time I don't have a connection. I haven't tried Fallout3 yet and I'll be chapped if it doesn't.
