My favorite gaming magazine goes out of print

Electronic Gaming Monthly is shutting down! This was the only magazine I read regarding consoles. I started picking it up on news stands right after I discovered Nintendo Power only covered Nintendo games. And now it is gone forever. Won't be seeing at your grocery store or console shop any more.

A bold new world they say, a new medium! A victim of the internet, much like newspapers. I shouldn't feel anything because this is just the march of progress, it is inevitable. But it's sad in a way because I was very young indeed when I first bought a copy of that mag, and now I've seen the final issue.

I didn't see that anyone here took notice so I thought I'd share this passing of a milestone.

I used to get a subscription but that sucks. I thought they were one of the magazines that didn't fail but these days you never know.

I'm sorry to hear that. I would be upset to loose MaxPC although they have a wonderful website and podcast I still like getting my monthly copy in the mail.

Yeah, there's something nice about having that actual item in your hands, being able to touch the glossy pages and see the pictures....plus you can read at the doctor's or elsewhere with no net/computer available. Haven't read that mag, but still sucks.

I'm right there with ya on MaxPC Duke.

Yeah, while I was in the Air Force....I used to go and buy them from the BX all the time.....It used to be TITLED "Electronic Gaming Monthly" then later "EGM"

I then followed THAT up with "GAMEPRO".

          The memories.

Actually, I still have EGM issues in a box somewhere, wonder if they'll be worth something now?

Funny how since gaming is going so strongly towards consoles that a console and hand held mag fails. Guess it's just market saturation. I would be pretty bummed if PCG went under.

I just tossed some of them in recycling (and a bunch of old PCG) at my Dad's house last year while cleaning out some of my remaining things kept there and figuring out what to bring to my house. Those were from WAY back, near the beginning when the thing was like 400 pages of content per month.

Remember those days? The things were just gigantic.
