Last ditch effort: WTB 7900GS card

I've been searching high and low for a particular video card, and I'm having no luck at all finding one, so in a last ditch effort to avoid an Ebay deal, I am asking if anyone has a 7900GS PCIe card for sale.

I have a generic 7900GS that's been modded, and I am looking to try out SLI with an identical card. I've found several offers for other brands such as PNY or XFX, but I want an identical card (I admit, I am anal) so that it matches what I have.

This card was originally a Woot.com purchase, and is an OEM card made by MSI and also used in Dell PCs that are marketed as 'gamer' rigs. So if you have one or know where I could find one, I am very interested in buying it.

wasn't that one of the highjacked reference cards to begin with? that had some faulty product option? i don't think your going to have an easy time finding another "identical" one....

INDEED, my friend, INDEED !! This is turning out to be quite a quest. The card was purportedly jacked from a shipment intended to go to MSI, but we never heard of a resolution from either party involved, and I bet we don't either, as something was settled behind closed doors. You would not believe the lengths I have gone to in my search for this mythical beast:

      1) Contacted the buyer I originally bought my card from - he RMA'd his card back. Woot.com offered a full 2 yr warranty extension after the MSI accusation hit.
      2) Posted on three For Sale forums so far, with no luck finding an identical card.
      3) PM'd several buyers in the original Woot.com thread forthis card, no offers back yet.
      4) A few Ebay auctions that went for higher than I want to pay. I don't babysit my auctions, I bid and don't return to jack up my bid.

If all else fails, there are plenty of Dell pulls on Ebay, so I will just have to keep bidding until I win one for my bid.

See, what i HEARD(hearse) was that nvidia & the board maker struck a deal with woot, where woot turned over their list of buyers & the sellers. most of them they attempted to contact via snail mail to return said cards, in exchange for "rebates on future purchases" and prosecuted the individuals(2 of them) who "stole" the cards. they were defective from day one, at least, some of them, hence the total # of the shipment. various issues plagued said cards, but a good number of them were still good & functional.

no support is being given for said cards though. chances are it will be VERY hard to obtain a second one, as the original owners are probably in fear of what will happen.

on the + side, you should be able to take just about any 7900gs and mate it up in sli, but they will only run at the speed of the slowest one.

Darth, I bought mine from a guy who bought two to use in SLI on a non-Nvidia board, not knowing that Nvidia had broken the newest Nvidia driver to not allow SLI on any non-Nvidia board, so updating past the 91.xx drivers would thenbreak SLI support. He sold me one for a few $$ more than he paid, so I was happy as a clam to get one at the time. For obvious reasons, I couldn't return my card to Woot.

I initially could run the Deep Freeze test on my card, but subsequent tests started to show artifacts. Using a handy dandy windshield de-icer kit, I was able to voltmod my card from 1.2v to 1.4v, and with the addition of a Zalman cu900 HSF, that card scored 85% of what my 7900GT card did. I still think those cards will all work fine with the proper modifications.

Like I mentioned, Ebay has plenty of Dell pulls, which are identical to my card. I just have to get one for MY price, not getting in a bidding war with someone. And besides Darth, you know me by now ... It has to be identical !!! I am waaay too anal to have mismatched cards in there.

The challenge of finding one keeps me on my toes ... I do love doing this stuff. Remember all those goofy searches I sent you on in search of the perfect fan controller ?? Well, thats the way I am with all of my PCs.

Seiko, you always were as sharp as a tack !!

Kyler doesn't have another card to upgrade to, so unless he plans an upgrade within the month, I'll keep looking. There are several on Ebay, but its not my preferred method of buying a vid card .. not by a long shot.

The problem is actually finding a 8800 series card (NOT ONLINE). I will let you know when I do!!

I have to admit, I would be wary of this as well. You never know what someone has done to it, be it overclocked it to a hideous degree, or zapped it with a static charge installing it on a carpet while wearing a wool sweater and...I don't know, being tased at the same time.
