    Page Pool Memory Problems

    Hey all,

    So I've been having problems with OS Paged Pool Memory low, as I'm sure lots of you have had before when you play TF2.

    I swear I've tried everything Google has to offer. Editing the registry, using the minimum and maximum size settings under My Computer etc...

    Can anyone help?

    Typically you should make your page/swap file size the same size min/max and about 1.5 times your real memory. So if you have 2GB memory use 3GB swap size.

    I'm going to move this to The Computer Lab where you may get more answers.

        I usually set the minimum page file size to 1.5 times my RAM size, maximum to 3 times. So for 2GB of RAM you would set minimum to 3GB and max to 6GB.

          You see, I can't do that because I don't use boot.ini.

          My computer boots directly off c:/windows, so when I try and do what that Steam Support Link says that Zeno posted, all I get is a blank notepad file

          Thanks for trying, though?

            Not sure what you're implying by "My computer boots directly off c:/windows" -- if you're running XP your boot configuration data is indeed contained within the boot.ini file (and within BCD on Vista/7). Not to mention that there are several other support suggestions on that page.

            How much RAM do you have, and how large is your page file currently? (I assume you tinkered with it judging by: "using the minimum and maximum size settings under My Computer etc...").

            Assuming you have adequate physical/virtual memory for TF2, there is another issue at play -- hence the additional tips on that Steam support page.

              Well, I finally got around to trying out everything that Steam said on that report page, and its still not working. I have plenty of memory (4GB) of DDR2 RAM, and I've been playing the game for 5 months consistently with no issues. The only thing I couldn't do is edit the boot.ini script, because when I try and open it, the notepad file is blank.... As I said before, when I start my machine it says, "Could not find Boot.ini, booting off C:\windows...

              I think Ill try and repair XP and the bootloader.... Anyone have any other ideas? And thanks all for the help by the way

                That just doesn't sound right. XP relies off the boot.ini to load multiple settings. Are you the only user of the computer? How long have you had this "Could not find boot.ini boot off c:\Windows..." problem?

                Truth be told, I would just back up all important information along with my entire steam folder and re-format.

                  I can't offer help for the page file error, but that missing boot.ini might not be difficult to resolve. Especially if you've maybe already fixed it.

                  "To resolve this issue, start the computer from the Windows XP CD, start the Recovery Console, and then use the Bootcfg.exe tool to rebuild the Boot.ini file. To do this, follow these steps:..."

                    Something is hiddiously wrong, it looks like it from your post.

                    anyway boot.ini in your c: should have this by default for a normal standard 1 partition drive.

                    [boot loader]
                    timeout=30
                    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
                    [operating systems]
                    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP" /fastdetect

                    as for the op, right click my computer
                    properties > advanced > performance > adanved > change

                    set that to x1.5 your memory ie
                    2gb 3.5
                    so for you 7gb page file will cover it.
                    dont leave it system managed...

                    I'm not insane. I'm just overwhelming!
