    Best Buy email list compromised.

Not too long ago I got a spam email from myself, something about enlarging you.... , The hospital my wife works at also blocked my address and I suspect it was because of this spam. Today I get this email from BB and I wonder if this has anything to do with theses recent issues.

    Dear Valued Best Buy Customer,

On March 31, we were informed by Epsilon, a company we use to send emails to our customers, that files containing the email addresses of some Best Buy customers were accessed without authorization.

We have been assured by Epsilon that the only information that may have been obtained was your email address and that the accessed files did not include any other information. A rigorous assessment by Epsilon determined that no other information is at risk. We are actively investigating to confirm this.

For your security, however, we wanted to call this matter to your attention. We ask that you remain alert to any unusual or suspicious emails. As our experts at Geek Squad would tell you, be very cautious when opening links or attachments from unknown senders.

In keeping with best industry security practices, Best Buy will never ask you to provide or confirm any information, including credit card numbers, unless you are on our secure e-commerce site, Best Buy - Computers, Video Games, TVs, Cameras, Appliances & More. If you receive an email asking for personal information, delete it. It did not come from Best Buy.

Our service provider has reported this incident to the appropriate authorities.

We regret this has taken place and for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We take your privacy very seriously, and we will continue to work diligently to protect your personal information. For more information on keeping your data safe, please visit:

I got a similar e-mail except from Ameriprise Financial regarding epsilon. I've got my homeowners insurance through Ameriprise.

I've gotten the one from Disney Destinations. I haven't checked my accounts today but I'm sure I'll get one from Best Buy.

The funny thing I realized today: because their system screwed up my email address and their online tool wouldn't let me fix it, it probably saved me from this breach. They got an email address that has a typo in it.

Oh yes, lots of others affected: Massive Epsilon breach affects JPMorgan Chase, Capital One, US Bank and others

                  Best Buy indeed !!

Gawd, I hate that place with a passion. The average Joe Consumer thinks its some special nerd haven, but when I compare it to Newegg (which isn't even as good as it was 2 years ago) its pretty much a sad state of affairs.

So .. uhhh, Duke .... how many pills didja buy ??

Ah, but the thing about a good Best Buy is that you can walk through and physically put your hands on most of the goods. Can't do that with the Egg. And some of us are interested in other consumer electronics, not just PC gear.

Yep. I like to put my hands on stuff before buying, like my DSLR I got last summer at Best Buy.

IN that case you should go to Fry's if you have one in your area. Our Fry's will match online prices.
