    Build for my dad

My father needs a new PC for basic office work, watching netflix and web surfing. I put this list together and was wondering what you all though? The office is a 3 PC install which he will use on a laptop.

Looks good. I did something similar for my mom. May I suggest going to TigerDirect.com and looking under bare bone systems. You may find a cheaper price for a very similar build. I got my mom an i3 bare bones for just over $300 after rebates. That didn't include Windows but it's worth a look and I was real happy with the hardware.

      GIGABYTE GA-H61M-S2-B3 Core i3 Barebones Kit - GIGABYTE GA-H61M-S2-B3 Motherboard, Intel Core i3-2100 CPU, Patriot 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 RAM, Seagate 1TB HDD, 24x DVDRW, DiabloTek Mid-Tower Case, 450W PSU at TigerDirect.com

That's what I got for my mom. Not as many rebates currently.

The parts are in and he is coming over to watch me assemble it in a little while. The day after I ordered it the CPU went on sale with one of those personal email codes, I called them and they gave me the $15.00 credit.

Nice selection of parts Duke. That's a decent budget build.

If you're used to MS Office, Open Office just doesn't cut it. I have Open Office on my home desktop, but only because I have MS Office on my laptop.

BTW, Duke, good on you for having dad over to watch the build. My brother asked me to build a machine for him, and I told him no. But I did say I would help him build his own. He had always been intimidated by computers, but now he can swap out cards, diagnose problems, upgrade, etc.
