USB 3.0 use with USB 2.0 devices.

I just read that you can plug the two different devices into the others ports but I thought that the plug was a different shape so this would not be possible. I don't have a USB 3.0 port handy so I was wondering if any of you could verify this.

I have USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports on my computer and USB devices of either style will work in the other. Of course 2.0 will not work at 3.0 speeds.

As said, USB 3.0 devices will work at USB 2.0 ports. Just not with the full speed. From my tests USB 3.0 devices are a bit faster than older devices though. Make sure you have the proper driver installed on your system.

The USB3 port and connectors have a few extra contacts, but they are basically the same shape and will work with USB2 ports/connectors.

          Thread hijack!

Anyone point me towards a fast 8GB USB stick 2.0 or 3.0. Needed for a bootable install of Ubuntu.

Well as soon as I get home I will try this and I will feel a little silly about the tech question I sent to Xotic PC.

I like these because of their durability and speed.

Quite a good price for a large USB memory stick. Will look into it.
