John Carmack Officially Leaves id Software

John Carmack, who cofounded Doom studio id Software, has officially and completely resigned from the company, it was announced today. In August, Carmack joined Oculus VR as its CTO and divided his time between both companies. That arrangement is no longer working out.

"I wanted to remain a technical adviser for Id, but it just didn't work out. Probably for the best, as the divided focus was challenging," Carmack said today on Twitter.

With John Carmack being so focused on being the CTO at Oculus, I'm not really surprised that he would leave. Id's employees have been slowly leaking out of there like crazy for the last few years, and basically the only thing they actually work on now is the Id Tech engine; which they just license out to everyone else.
