I installed Win10 on my main system. The upgrade went fine with one exception: The app store and new windows 10 apps don't work. Haven't figured out yet how to fix it.

I was surprised when I installed Win 10 on a laptop that is over 10 years old and originally came with XP. Win 10 installed as easily, on this computer, as it did on the others. No problems with any drivers or programs. This includes proprietary that runs my engraver.

I haven't used this fix (I'm postponing as long as possible). It has helped some people:

I have my OS on one drive and data on the other. A few days ago did the upgrade without any issues. today I did a clean install with the option to keep my files. It dumped my apps but kept my data and it took less then 20 minutes. Prior to the upgrade my SSD was full with stuff I couldn't get rid of but after the clean install it's like new. Below is an image of the new install after reinstalling may applications.

Noob question but how does updating windows affect your other programs/data/passwords?

It doesn't. All of mine worked as before the update.

As with anything, a few people are having trouble with Win10. A major update is expected soon.

"Microsoft's original plan, we've heard from various sources, was to roll out Windows 10 in October 2015. Instead, due to OEM pressure, Microsoft began rolling out Windows 10 in late July. An update with a bunch of missing features, known as Threshold 2, is coming later this Fall."

Next year Spring & Fall, a pair of "Redstone" updates will continue improving the stability.

So far I have not upgraded my laptop because I haven't had time, are there some issues going on? The only issue I have had with my desktop is that the screen saver or sleep modes will not woke properly.

Only a few users are having trouble. Nobody knows if that's 50 users or 50,000 users. I've read stories of frustrated guys running it great for awhile and then having a new update break something (mail, edge browser, etc.).

I can afford to wait, so that's my crazy strategy.

ok so windows said my computer is nor ready for the upgrade yet. I am guessing because it is not a dell spec or main stream build.
