So basically, it turns high beam on when there are no other cars around and when you are not blinding whomever you are following.

I really doubt that many accidents are caused because someone isn't able to see what's on the side of the road. A deer isn't going to reconsider running into the road because a volvo with high beams is coming.

A large amount of accidents do happen because you can't see the animals/people at a higher rate of speed.
The next edition of the self stopping products will stop for deer. This will be out this summer as well as autonomous pilot up to 80 mph. You can have that but not an intelligent high beam.

It is not just turning them on and off. It is shading where the car is so the person isn't blinded, allowing the full light on the area where there are no cars.

Automatic dimmers have been around for a long while now, on higher end vehicles. My father had them on a Lincoln back in the early nineties.
I just saw a report on a new vehicle lighting report. The only car to pass was the Toyota Prius with led lights. Granted the report did not test all new vehicles, but they expect to add more cars to the report as they go along.

I could have sworn my father in-law had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that had auto hi Beams. Maybe there is something particular about these ones.

normal high beams just go on and off. These shade where the car is and keep the rest of the high beam on.
