    Your new disposable HDTV !

I just saw a great deal on a Vizio 42" LCD for $699 (refurb) at Buy.com, but then I read this:

    http://hdguru.com/?p=107

This sums up the warranty info on many second or third tier flat panel units, and it well worth a read if you are buying a refurb or a unit with no extended warranty.

This is good to know as I had thought about getting a one of those Tier 2's listed there.

Check the date on the update: Summer 2007. I'm not so sure the same conditions would hold true today, as in markets like this quality is always shifting.

Same goes for cars. 10 years ago, wasn't nobody buying Hyundai. Now, they just hit car of the year with a brand new luxury sedan, and they've got the best warranty in the business.

Honda started out the same way when they first started making cars for the US market. Now they are one of the top brands. Things do change. You just have to be old enough to notice it.
Of course it happens to everyone eventually.

According to my brother, who up until lately was the warehouse manager at Circuit City around here (well, still is for 2 months), Vizio was a hit or miss. Pretty gorgeous picture, but it was 50/50 whether you'd get a good unit or a bad one that would crap out on you pretty fast.

I picked up a 32" LED Vizio, at Sam's Club, for $250.00 last October and it has been doing great. I have it in my store running store commercials, other Video and photos.

                +1

We have (in my immediate family- not in my house) 4 of these, and 2 have had to be replaced within warranty.

The reality is that the return process wasnt really that bad at Wal Mart. "

                "Its broke"

                "did you drop it?"

"No. It just wont fire up suddenly"

" Take it out of the box please "

They inspected it for damage, seeing it is new condition.

"we have that item in stock. Please go to the Electronics counter and ask them to pick one for you and then come back here"

                End of story.

While it is a dated article, it does bring up good points, and I would recommend buying something that big/expensive at a local store like Sams or Costco so that you can return it while under warranty.

You'll get a better price online, but the hassle of a return during the warranty period, even if it is covered, is not for the impatient.

Vizio is just a brand that makes electronics cheap and has big contracts with bestbuy and walmart

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
