Gene and Majel Roddenberry's remains to be sent off in to space

"Star Trek" Creator And Wife To Spend Eternity In Space

    January 26, 2009 10:04 PM EST | AP

LOS ANGELES — The creator of "Star Trek" and his wife will spend eternity together in space. Celestis Inc., a company that specializes in "memorial spaceflights," said Monday that it will ship the remains of Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett Roddenberry into space next year.

The couple's cremated remains will be sealed into specially made capsules designed to withstand the rigors of space travel. A rocket-launched spacecraft will carry the capsules, along with digitized tributes from fans. The Roddenberrys' remains _ and the spacecraft _ will travel ever deeper into space and will not return to earth, company spokeswoman Susan Schonfeld said.

After Gene Roddenberry died in 1991, his wife commissioned Celestis to launch a part of his remains into space in 1997. She died Dec. 18, 2008.

    What a fitting end imo.

    Again?

Gene was sent off twice before by my own recollection. They must have saved some remains for this day, and they will probably milk the brand again in the near future when Star Trek's latest venture needs a bump.

Remember when they said "this is the last movie"
Then they did Generations, and called out "this is the last one"
Then they pulled Star Trek off all the stations and said "no more"
Then they did the new "Star Trek" which ended a few years ago, and I never watched it because I knew that "this will be the last one"
And now, they have a new movie coming out....

And low and behold, Gene and Majel's ashes are suddenly being sent into space.... I recall a thread in here about EA's whorish tendencies- but it seems that Star Trek may be getting a hall pass....

I think it was Scotty's ashes they sent up twice before this. Both times I think there were complications. If I remember correctly the last rocket to carry Scotty blew up, scattering his ashes all over.

Perhaps some aliens will reconstruct the ashes and have him sent back here under the name M'berry, and we'll have to convince him he really was human, and he came from here.
