    Gears Of DRM

Gears of War DRM screwup makes PC version unplayable - Ars Technica

This reminds me so much of the Y2K bug. Once a certain date rolls around, your PC was supposed to crash and burn.

Only this time, It did happen.

I'd like to know just what happens when starting up the game. Anyone got gears of war installed?

Yay DRM! You know, the only people it really hurts are those who legitimately purchase a game, people out looking for a free ride probably aren't going to buy it anyway, and then there was the Spore fiasco, which I believe led to more people pirating it than would have in the first place. I didn't buy or download it, I ignored it, mostly cause of the DRM.

Well, I finally installed my version during the X-mas break and finished it. I'm unlikely to ever play it again, because I feel it was SEVERELY over-hyped.

But that also means I don't have to worry about this issue.

Ummm, did you run the system cleaner after you did it? Unless they've changed things, SecuROM stays installed like a Trojan even after the game it ships with is removed.

Most people would probably classify it as such.

Personally I think DRM and SecuROM are stupid. Its going to get broken so it wont stop people from pirating it and some of the people who would buy it legit wont because of the SecuROM being a pain.

There's actually a thread here where the Securom uninstaller is linked up. I downloaded it and ran it on most of my PCs, as it looks to have screwed up some of my DVD burners.
I haven't proven that, but they burned fine up until I loaded Fallout 3 on the PCs, then both of them can no longer burn a CD.
Uninstalling Securom and reloading Nero fixed one of them. The other one I haven't re-installed Nero yet.
