I cant view the link from work, but any element in that family will react violently with water. Sodium, potassium, lithium etc.

Side note: Lab teacher in high school threw some into the sink for us as a demo. Managed to set a ceiling tile on fire. good times
Delivering bacon goodness one round at a time.

Heh, it's an old government promotional film of them throwing large barrels filled with sodium from producing war materials during WWII in to a lake to dispose of them and how it's so good because it's an alkalai lake with nothing living in it anyway and it gets rid of dangerous chemicals.

No really, couldn't people just toss that stuff in by the truck load pretty much

Not really, you have to buy sodium and potassium from special sources that require a full background check and probably a serious educational reason. It also costs a fortune. We did the same thing in chemistry with sodium...

that cesium and rubidium stuff probably requires a special government grant because of its reactivity... and you dont want to mess with francium, its radioactive by itself and is probably so powerful that only the military produces it.

You cant just go and mine this stuff, you have to find a compound containing it and use the right chemical reaction to produce the raw element. Once youve done that, youve gotta be quick and toss it in oil or theyll react with water in the air or the water on your skin (not fun).

Rubidium & Cesium actually require it be suspended in an inert gas medium. not even oil will work as eve nthe tiniest amount of a hydrogen based anything will cause it to go off bigtime. too bad though, i want some REAL bad.

I don't think anyone uses francium. If I remember correctly there are only a few ounces of the stuff naturally in existence at a time on the planet. Maybe they make some from nuclear decay or bombardment, but the longest half life I found was 22 minutes, so you couldn't really do anything practical with it. However, it would be awesome to see some of that stuff go

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
