    School has REALLY changed since.....

    Man Oh Man....

My nephew gets an " A " for this as a Science Project
Whatever happened to building a volcano or something... LOL

    I'm getting old

BTW.... Some of the other players may remember him as <<TeaBag>> from UT2K4. And I must give him credit of course... A is an A.

Good Job Tyler AKA Cellja Boy
( my sister and niece are in the intro )

    It brings up the question...
What's the strangest / coolest science project you have seen or made ?!?

Vito, I think it all went down hill when they stopped putting real chemicals in the chem sets we used to get as kids.

Parents of today would sue because little johnny moron drank the hydrochloric acid and they were too busy watching TV to notice. THAT'S why they don't let people have fun anymore :P

BTW, interesting video Vito. Certainly a "different" way of going about science

              1995. 9th grade.

Science teacher presented us with a project. make a 3D model of an animal cell, with a desription as to each mart right down to the ribosomes. it had to be very detailed, and he made sure we were all aware of it.

I borrowed my parents brand new Pentium 90Mhz with an ati diamond stealh Mach64 2mb video card computer, and using CAD created a complete animal cell, going day down to the basic parts of every item. the file as 25megs in size. i had to borrow the pc, and bring it to school for the presentation. No computer in school could handle the CAD software, let alone handle it, because at the time it was state of the art. my dad helped me transport it(because of a slight mishap a few months before when 2 days after the pc arrived, and he left for work, i disassembled it, and removed EVERY removable part. he arrived home early, a bit pissed as you can image, seeing his brand new 6k computer laying in pieces on the living room floor) to school. and there was no way to transport said CAD file due to its size, or the VRML file associated with it. i then also proceeded to create a VRML(or WRL for those of you with extension understanding) virtual world of said cell, based off the CAD creation, that you could take a virtual tour of, inside of with free range of movement, and when you clicked on a part an lengthy description showed up.

Needless to say, the Teacher proceeded to Give me an F. everyone brought in their foam models, cloth creations, etc, there were 3d, and something you could hold. my teacher said because mine was on a CRT, it was only 2d, and i didn't follow the specifications of the project.

We(my dad & i, since he taught me to USE CAD to do it) proceeded to petition the head of the science dept, and the principal. after all, i put ALOT of work into it, and evreything was there. my contention was it was indeed 3D by nature as it was a 3D Virtual world created on the computer. it was not our fault technology hadn't caught up to reality.

The principal in turn said it bunk, and the Teacher's F stood. not to be disuaded, we brought it to the school board. by the time we were done, they were amazed to no end. not only had i done something not done before in school, learned quite a bit in both computers, and in biology in doing it, they forced the teacher to revise my grade, and demanded a better grade. they concluded that a 3D simulation was just as much 3D in the real world, and because this is where the school system was looking to, the future for education, i won my case.

i got an A+ for it. it needed to though. took every spare moment i had for 2 months to create. not to mention it pushed the limits of technology of the day, used software most folks didn't have access to, and, it was a darn good repesentation. i wound up getting an award for it in the end of some type.

Not to be disuaded, and upset over the decision, the teacher proceeded to make things difficult for me, since he lost his fight, and had to admit it was 3D in nature. i in turn proceeded to do some very bad stuff in school, and ultimately got kicked out for the schools "computer" related problems.

that was by and large the COOLEST, and for the time STRANGEST project i have ever done

In 1969 - I built this model kit.

I had my GI Joe astronaut.

And then I did a big poster board showing the flight path to the moon and back again.

Awesome story Darth, that is really cool.
Pace, do you still have that GI Joe? I love GI Joes and still have about 20-30 of them from the 1980s, the 3 ? inch figures though, not the same you had.

I didn?t really do the science thing in high school.

I do remember programming in GWBasic when I was in the 8th grade (89-90) where we learned some basics. I programmed a horse racing game that allowed you to enter your own horse name, place some money, would create fictitious odds and give you payouts. The horses were simply dots on the screen but they would move in random lengths each second, thus creating a simulation of racing.

At the end, you won the money you bet. I never did figure out how to save information for a future use.

We then started to use this program to actually do some real betting on the horses. It then got confiscated and I got a detention for enticing gambling.

While not really a project, when I was in 10th grade, I got my hands on some instructions on how to make various explosives?smokes bombs and such. One of them was a tennis ball bomb. Without going into details, lets just say that it?s ends up being a rocket with a trail of fire. While I didn?t actually do it, someone brought one to school and threw it in a classroom over recess. The entire school was smoked out, with a nasty sulphur smell. We were not allowed back in school for a few hours, the time the smoke and smell dissipated. Afterwards, in the classroom where the ball was thrown, they found some burned school bags and papers. I got in a lot of crap for that, but never did get expelled. Needless to say that being twinky?s parents back then wasn?t one of their shining moments.
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

No, I don't have that GI Joe anymore. I sure wish I would have hung on to some of that stuff from back then.

My favorite GI Joe was this one. You actually didn't get the GI Joe, you got the capsule and an astronaut suit. It also came with a 45rpm record that played the blast off from John Glenn, a little communication of him in orbit, and the splash down.

Wow...the copyright on that capsule was five years before I was born. I had one of the old GI Joes, the big ones (I think it was around 12" tall) with actual hair. Mine had a bald spot from being in the bathtub. I had a pontoon plane for him as well.

Well either you're not as old as I thought you were (good for you), or I'm older than I thought I was (bad for me). Crap.
