the rubber ball claymore would be a riot on land...limited effect at sea, I'd imagine. The super hose would be fun, but dangerous: if the guys have rifles they'd just shoot you off the ship before they got in range of the water cannon. That said, we are back to just shooting the thugs...cheaper and more effective than all these high tech solutions.

Big guns firing lots of grape shot and chains like the old pirate days would keep them at bay. Maybe we should arm merchant ships like we did post WWII. My dad started out in the Merchant Navy and I have his training notes from learning to use the weapons including some big guns mounted strategically around the deck.Jaspurr

ROFL I cant wait for the first article I read that says some Liberal Extremists were injured when a Japanese Whaling Vessel repelled a bunch of idiots in a Zodiac with Chemicals, foam and ultrasonic rifles, Tactics they learned during the Pirate Wars off the coast of Somalia

The Don't hurt them even though they want to KILL you just doesn't sit right with me. Oh I know about all the Politics and such. Russia would just shoot them and that would be that back in the day. (Or Heck, maybe even NOW)
Scratch someone's behind, and 4,000 reports in triplicate, and go in front of a board of inquiry as to whether you could have avoided scratching the guy who wanted to blow up your Ship/Jeep/Truck, etc...

Just fly an F18, at mach 1.5, fifty feet over a pirate boat. Nobody shot them and if they can't swim, it's their own fault.

Where do you put the Bayonet?
Chesty Puller (upon seeing a flamethrower for the first time)
I am all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Lets start with typewriters.

Seriously, though, it surprises me that merchant ships are NOT armed since they spend most of their time in international waters.
