My dad went to Gatlinburg a few years ago. Lost some respect for him for that one--I wouldn't mind the scenery and the mountains, but could do without the endless focus on Country. He then followed it up with a visit to the Grand Ole Opry and Nashville--the countrified side, not the blues side of the city.
I like some country, and I love folk and Americana, but can do without that much pure sugar country.

I lived in Murfreesboro and Smyrna Tennessee when I was a kid. My father was stationed at Seward AFB. Gorgeous country but, every time friends and relatives came to visit we had to take them to The Ryman Auditorium. For those of you who do not know that was the original Grand Ole Oprey. It was not air conditioned and in the summer it was brutal.
On another note, if you like waterfalls you should go to Falls Creek Falls State Park. It is between Murfreesboro and Knoxville on the Cumberland Plateau. It has the most and highest waterfalls east of the Rocky Mountains.
