Looking for a GOOD brand of camera filter

What would the real photographers out there recommend.

B+W, Hoya? Low end Hoya ok or do you at least need the PRO1 version. I just bought a new Tamron 28-250mm lens and need to get some 62mm filters for it, so I was just wondering what you all think is good brand.

Name brand and exact type would be appreciated. Looking for a UV and a CPL. Any suggestions appreciated.

I use Hoya, and not necessarily the top PRO1 brand.

I definatly avoid the low cost filters, so anything under $40 is a big no for me. You can find filters as cheap as $10 (UV filters) on amazon, ebay and such.

I bought this one for my wide angle (77mm)
    http://www.amazon.com/Hoya-Ultra-Vio...2396852&sr=8-1

I went with the multi coated one. Issue with these is that if they come out of the box with a smudge, you have to bring it back.

B&W is tops in my books, but often too expensive for my budget. I used to have Tiffen, but I find that in the last few years, their quality has gone down.

It depends on the photography you do. Same thing as with lenses. I wanted a new portrait lens and would love the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L lens, but its $1200. If I were a pro making a living at this, I would buy that lens as its the best. But as I'm a hobbyest, I went with the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens for $550, which I really like.

Same with filters. Some pros I know don't use UV filters. They always have the lens hood for protection. Any amount of glass you put it front of the lens will impact your picture. Many prefer not to put any at all. I always have a UV filter on mine, jsut a force of habit. They are just different schools of thought. If I were a pro, I'd put the B&W filters on. I'm not, so I'll settle for a good Hoya

I'll be honest in saying that I know next to nothing about filter technology. So comparing one to the other won't do me much good. hehe.

The way I go about it is probably not the best, but I look at brands and pricing.

I'm on a few photography forums and I rely on the experiences of more seasons photographers. Hoya and B&W are the two brands I see the most often for all types of filters. You'll have an occasional Kenko, Tiffen and so on, but the masses seem to go with Hoya and B&W.

My two photography teachers also said the same, as did the couple of online brand reviews.

That being said, in terms of the specific differences, I don't know squat, so I go mainly by price. Seeing as I am sticking with a good quality brand, I try and get the middle of the road so I aim for a price range of $40-$60 (canadian hehe) for a UV. CPL are more expensive, but the same logic applies.

So both look good to me. I would probably go with the Hoya, but no real rhyme or reason for it other than brand loyalty

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
