    Sunburn Remedies

Well, after a long day at the lake I feel like I have been cooked like a lobster. No matter how hard I try with sunscreen, I always still seem to get burned!

So, what do you guys put on a bad sunburn to lessen the annoyance?

nothing, sun burn is a real burn burn.
You need to treat it as such.

Avoid the usual oh put lotion/butter/natural yogart/bacon/cold meat on it
Those things only will make it take longer, esp the yogart it just cooks and is full of nasties damaged skin hates.
End up spending more time fighting bacteria off damaged areas than healing them...

Initally spend time in a cool shower, until the water stays on your burn areas and that feeling of heat is gone
This will cool down the skin as well as sooth it after the inital EEEP COLD!
If you can try keep it uncovered, or at least so it can breath.
give it a day, you can do another cool shower if you feel its still warm.

Next morning put some good moisturiser, not 99c special, i mean proper stuff, like E45.
ONLY and I mean ONLY if the burning sensation is gone!
Apply it in small bits, let the skin absorb it, repeat when needed for a few days

    Doing that will
    1 help it heal quicker
2 should minimise the damage its taken

Damage is done, mostly to the top 3-4 layers of your skin so expect it to shed away as its already dead...
but if you deal with it right, it should be minimal.

Avoid hot showering and putting fragranced stuff,
or anything that has "avoid use on broken or damaged skin" (it says that for a reason not just cos it stings) on the burnt area,
it will only undo anything you have done!!

As for the sun cream what are you using?

I'm not insane. I'm just overwhelming!

      Thanks Sirex!

Do you suggest using Aloe Vera?

I guess its like a tattoo... a thin film of lotion, non scented, in small quantities. As said, let your skin soak it.

The best thing is time...and take this as a lesson to use SPF 65 on your skin.

As much as health officials say its important, I find its damn expensive to buy sunscreen
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

It will do the same job, just check for the avoid use on damaged skin line...

I tend to stick to E45 for stuff, I know there stuffs good, it works and well 99% of them dont contain stuff that will irritate.

Well I always make sure to put it on the first time around.

It is just after drying off with a towel and wearing a life jacket that it wears off and I forget to put some more on.

Well... i've got this item from Sacred Grove Apothecary called "Skin Mend" that i've used in the past. Works great, and trust me out here in phoenix you get sunburns if you aren't careful. If you want, I can send you their e-mail address so you can get prices and more info.

Something makes me think you get sunburned quite easily. Have you over the past few days? It's really cooking down here in Mid-England.

had sun up here since thrusday night.

I do burn easy so i avoid prolonged periods in the sun,
minerva will confirm i'm whiter than semi-skimmed milk.

But that stuffs not from experience rather an answer from a collection of diff things,
from first aid, having scott (lol main factor)
to dealing with various burns from water to electrical.

Plus i retain information that i generally dont have to use.

That is only for jellyfish stings!

Thankfully I don't need to worry about those at the lake...

If you want to take the sting out use preparation H it really works but you smell like a rear end all day

actually it works well with sea urchins as well. It stiffens the spines enough to pull them out. Trust me, i know this from experience......

otherwise i would agree with JohnnyRico: rum, stay out of the sun and more rum.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
