I wasn't really a big fan; he was a little too creepy for me (and before my time). But, he was very revolutionary in the area of Pop so he will be missed.

He did alot for Motown and pop music in general. He was inspirational to many people in his early days. I think he just suffered from too many insecurities and they took over his life.
