Jewelry robbers raid London's Graff Diamonds

London--Two men posing as customers robbed Graff Diamonds on New Bond Street in London on Aug. 6, stealing nearly $65 million in jewelry, according to various news reports.

The gem heist is considered to be the largest ever in British history.

Described as smartly dressed, the men arrived at the store by taxi. Once in the store, they brandished two handguns, threatened staffed with them and then grabbed about 43 jewelry items, including rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches, according to news reports.

As they exited the store, they took a female staff member hostage and fired a shot into the ground, news reports said.

They then released the woman and fired a second shot into the ground during their escape in a series of getaway cars, news reports said.

Police said both men were well-dressed, in their thirties and spoke with London accents.

One man was about six-feet tall, with a slim build, dark hair and a well-combed side part. He was wearing a grey suit, white shirt and tie.

The other man is black, about six-feet tall, more well-built than the first suspect, with a very short Afro. He was also wearing a grey suit, white shirt and tie.

According to Detective Chief Inspector Pam Mace of London's Metropolitan Police Service's Flying Squad, "the pair are extremely dangerous."

The same store lost jewelry worth about $38.37 million in a 2003 robbery by gem thieves dubbed the Pink Panther Gang, according to news reports.
they will net about $6,000,000.00 if they can fence the stuff.

I take it diamonds are hard to sell if stolen because they have some kind of unique thing like a fingerprint?

I do carry and have a license to carry concealed.
Larger ones do. Also they stole jewelry and they should be identifiable too. They will probably break out the stones and melt the gold down.
I had someone break into my store about 8 years ago. It was about 3:00 Am and they got nothing. They broke the glass in the front door, which set off the alarm. All of my merchandise was locked in my vaults. The police arrived two minutes after the alarm activated and the crooks were already gone.
They did break into two other stores during that week and cleaned them out. They did not pull their merchandise at night. Stupid because Jewelers Mutual will not cover looses if you do not secure your merchandise when closed.
They did catch the crooks a couple of weeks later in Miami. One of their girlfriends turned them in.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
