    Not what we need

After getting up this morning and ready to walk outside for a smoke. I opened the front door and there was a little face sitting there. It made no attempt to come in or run away even though I was screaming and slammed the door in it's face.

It turned out to be a ferret. It doesn't seem to be very big and it looks really skinny but I don't know what they are supposed to look like in general. Anyways we put it in our cat carrier and got it some food. My kids have become attached to it. Obviously it belongs to someone because it's so friendly.

I don't know if ferrets are chipped but I will call the vet tomorrow as well as the local animal shelter. We've already walked around the neighborhood and one of the kids said they saw it running across the main road on Fri and almost got hit, so it's been on the loose for a few days.
So go on, go on be your own, go on be your own star!

I hope you find its owners or at least a new home Lady.

Ferrets are alright, pretty funny little fools...I used to have one in my younger years. If they didn't have that funky smell, they'd be great!

Friends of mine have two. They do make great pets and if you own one you get the scent gland removed just like with skunks. (if you are smart)

Where do you put the Bayonet?

Mine had it removed too, but it still didn't smell like roses.

Skud we used to have ferrets too, there are breeds that with the scent gland removed and like weekly baths they smell fine. They are without a doubt the funnest rodents around.

Unfortunately, you said 5 words that mean you have a ferret..."my kids have become attached"...welcome to the world of ferrets! You also should be able to check with the vet to find out ways to check the odor somewhat. I have never had a ferret but a friend of mine had two and when the ferrets were playing, they weren't the only things rolling on the floor!

They are a riot when they play! I remember mine would lay on his back and I'd grab his stomach and shake him (lightly) and you could swear he was laughing...also their little sideways run when they play is hillarious. And, yes, Apache, they are more fun than roses.

He has been a lot of fun and gets along well w/ the other animals but it's still just not something we can keep. With my oldest and his disability, there are just way to many things that could happen and if they did, would be devastating to my son.

However, I did take him (my kids swore it was a girl) to the vet this morning to be checked for the chip and he doesn't have one. He has been neutered and the scent glands removed though.

None of the vets office's in town have had anyone call about a lost ferret and neither has the local pet adoption center. Tomorrow the animal shelter is open for a few hours and I'll call them.

In the meantime, my sons friend has a cage we can put him in so he's got more room then the cat carrier and if we can't find his home, then the friend's parents said it's ok for him to have him.

That's good. I understand the need for animal shelters but I don't like the survival rate of older animals there. So, I wish you and the ferret well on the "home" front!

Are you sure it wasn't the money you could be saving with GEICO?

Has anyone seen my lost rat? Due to an unfortunate antique clothes ringer accident he appears to be rather stretched and due to an unfortunate lawnmower accident he is... fixed. Last seen in the area of Rexburg, Idaho. WARNING: If you see him please contact animal control. He is prone to sudden homicidal mood swings and is able to gnaw his way out of any known animal crate or cage.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
