Well, my paycheck went there so they were happy. It wasn't a very profitable job.

Saturday day on a fruit and vegetable store at the local market and as a bar/ cellarman on Saturday evenings in a local pub. Work at 05:30 am until around 4pm, home, bath and off to the pub for 07:30 until around midnight then sometimes off to a club afterwards.

I guess my first job was working tobacco.

Actually I grew up in it, Ma used to have me in the crib beside her while she looped tobacco at the barn. I started what we called trucking tobacco (driving old farmall tractor) when I was 7 (unpaid). I remember Pa had to make some pedal extensions out of 2x4 so my feet could reach the pedals

I trucked tobacco until I was 12 or 13 then I started priming and getting a little pay, I think we made about $10 or $15 a day back then.

I had a blast, I wouldn't change the way I was raised for anything in the world.

Sounds good. I'd rather do that than drive a 40 foot bus through city streets, rush hours, and folks hollering at me!...but the pay's alright, here, I guess.

There used to be a lot of tobacco farms in the south. Now you see less and less tobacco grown every year. It used to be a great cash crop.

The best thing about growing up in the tobacco business was you learned what it was like to do back breaking work and I do mean back breaking. Man them sand lugs killed me the older I got. When I was little I was closer to them

I worked in the watermelon fields. Picking, loading pickup trucks, and then selling in stores and driving around on the back country roads selling them "door to door".

As with Apache, every job I ever had after that was easier.

I was reading about the Mexican American Astronaut that is going up on the next shuttle flight. As a kid he worked in California as a migrant farm worker in the summers. His parents made sure he went to school no matter where they were during the school years. He remembers his father turning to him, at the end of a hard day in the fields, and telling him "if you do not get a good education this is all you will have to look forward to". I think he believed his father.

Excellent. You mean the system is not broken and you actually can succeed if you work hard and set goals?

Haven't had a real one yet (but don't worry just in high school)..

I do work around the house for my parents and receive some goodies in return, but not for a real employer yet. My parents have said that my 'job' right now is to be a student and get good grades, which I do, so they haven't really pushed for me to get one.
