    lol.

this is gonna be strange since a lot of us are in the US, including myself, but I enjoy a "warm" beer, like the Europeans. I quoted it because I was riding with a friend back from Santa Cruz, and he picked up some old guy that was hitchhiking(yeah, not a great idea, but it turned out OK), and he was a german tourist who was using hostels and walking/hitchhiking to get around for less. we started talking about beers and if/why they drink warm beer across the pond. He said it isnt really warm, just not as cold as they usually serve them here in the US. like, lightly chilled. and this was just some random old german hitchhiker, so dont quote me on European ways.
I really like them like that. It increases "drinkability" for me. The coors light or whatever that has the cans that turn blue when they are cold enough, that is too cold for me to give everyone a perspective. lol

Technically you're supposed to drink beer at a cool room temperature because that's when the flavors are most pronounced and give the most.

Actually it all depend upon the beer. In the 40's and 50's the BIG breweries took all the flavor out of beer so it would sell to more people and chilling it provides stimulation to make up for this. Different beers need to be served at different temperatures. Here is simplified explanation from Wiki.

        Serving temperature

The temperature of a beer has an influence on a drinker's experience; warmer temperatures reveal the range of flavours in a beer; however, cooler temperatures are more refreshing. Most drinkers prefer pale lager to be served chilled, a low- or medium-strength pale ale to be served cool, while a strong barley wine or imperial stout to be served at room temperature.[107]
?douard Manet's The Waitress showing a woman serving beer

Beer writer Michael Jackson proposed a five-level scale for serving temperatures: well chilled (7 ?C/45 ?F) for "light" beers (pale lagers); chilled (8 ?C/47 ?F) for Berliner Weisse and other wheat beers; lightly chilled (9 ?C/48 ?F) for all dark lagers, altbier and German wheat beers; cellar temperature (13 ?C/55 ?F) for regular British ale, stout and most Belgian specialities; and room temperature (15.5 ?C/60 ?F) for strong dark ales (especially trappist beer) and barley wine.[108]

Drinking chilled beer is a social trend that began with the development of artificial refrigeration and by the 1870s, was spread in those countries that concentrated on brewing pale lager.[109] Chilling below 15.5 ?C/60 ?F starts to reduce taste awareness[110] and reduces it significantly below 10 ?C/50 ?F;[111] while this is acceptable for beers without an appreciable aroma or taste profile, beers brewed with more than basic refreshment in mind reveal their flavours more when served unchilled?either cool or at room temperature.[112] Cask Marque, a non-profit UK beer organisation, has set a temperature standard range of 12?-14?C (53?-57?F) for cask ales to be served.[113]
Skud, I love Hacker Pschorr. There was a place in Daytona that served this and I once chugged a whole yard, what a night that was.

Lol! I did about the same, an all dayer...that's kind of why I ended up taking a break from it.

I found this image on Wiki which gives an idea of the size. They also sell half yards and many times they have wooden holders to prevent the glass from breaking.

So it is actually a frekin yard of beer? Looks bigger in the second photo, but is very hard to tell proportions. The guy may be small?
Is there an actual measurement for those things? Ive seen stuff kinda like that in Vegas, but I believe they were mixed drinks, not brews.
Oh boy, that would make me SICK. A 40 does me in good because you want to drink it before it gets warm. I wonder how many ounces that thing is... Not so good for me.

I wish we could buy 40s in Florida. They don't sell them here because a 40 puts you over the legal driving limit. I didn't get to sip my first 40 until I visited Toronto two years ago.

This article is about the measurement of beer known as the yard. For other definitions, see Yard (disambiguation).

A yard (or yard glass) is a very tall glass used for drinking beer; a
Here is a quote from Wiki. I added the 1.7 liter part because I found it elsewhere and 1.7 liters = 57.8 oz.

yard (or yard of ale) also refers to the (variable) quantity of beer held by such a glass. Approx 1.7 Imperial Liters.

The glass is approximately 1 yard long, shaped with a bulb at the bottom, and a widening shaft which constitutes most of the height. Because the glass is so long and in any case does not usually have a stable flat base, it is hung on the wall when not in use.

Drinking a yard glass full of beer is a traditional pub game. The object is to drink the entire glassful without pausing for breath, and/or to drink it as quickly as possible. Because of the shape of the glass, once it is raised and the liquid starts to flow, it is difficult to pause. When attempted by the novice, the liquid may flow out in a rush and soak the person holding the glass.
