Well, reading them wouldnt have been so bad, but if he deleted them..
I know our FEDERAL government loses paperwork, so I am sure some local jail is capable of losing documents also. So if he deleted records and the paper copy was lost he would basically make a person innocent.

What the hell was he not being watched for?

This is like, some guy in jail for shooting a bunch of people, then they need some expert marksman to guard some dangerous prisoners so they let him do it because he was good at it when he got convicted.

Not surprised in the slightest with this. Most inmates in the UK however are on holiday or too busy playing on their PS3's to cause this kind of trouble.
