If it reaches the root, it is going to cost you more. it is better you take care of it when the cost is low. You need to floss more often as well. Listerine helps but not that much as you think it will.

Tony look into this, I have it as back up. I have used it once but you have to find someone that will take it. I know of a few people that do not have any kind of insurance and use this in place of it. Yeah, it sucks having to pay the full amount but you can put it on a payment plan and pay it off monthly instead trying to come up with the whole amount at once.

i just have my cavity wisdom teeth pulled this summer. in my opinion, don't try to hold it because it might just get worse and you don't know it. by that time, it will hurt so bad that you gonna end up spend more, like me, i ended up in emergency room because i get fever just by waiting for oral surgeon to do the surgery.. i know that this might get expensive. i spend around $1.6k to pullled all my wisdom teeth.

go check it first, and see what you need to do.

wierd, I had someone else tell me that it would probably cost less to have a tooth yanked as oppose to having it fixed

I floss twice a day, brush at least twice, sometimes more, and rinse with anti-bacterial mouth rinse twice a day, and go to the dentist every 6 months. I currently have one cavity in almost 25 years.

I brush twice a day, rarely floss, and never use mouth wash. I've never had a cavity in my 16 years of living. And my daily sugar intake (horray for high metabolism) I'm surprised I haven't gotten one yet

As for flossing goes, I really need to do it more often, my dentist told me that I had started building plauq last time I went. Sooo yea.

You know, they always say "You only start caring and doing when you should, AFTER it's too late". I don't want to be one of those flossers flossing after I messed up my teeth :P

There is a place called "Shands Hospital" that have Dental Students, someone told me this would be an affordable route to go, considering I'd be a guinea pig lol

Actually, from when my mom was in school I remember her talking about free clinics they used to run, it was in Philadelphia and those with little money would come in and that's how the dental students got practice.

Depending what they run there, it would probably be either cheap or free for you, although you are going to be worked on by students.

I'm actually going to my parents for dinner tonight, leaving in around an hour so I'll ask her about everything and post a response when I get home tonight.

the clinic sounds like a good idea to me. they are new so the knowledge will be fresh in their mind. of course they won't have the experience. but there should be someone supervising so i would go for it and try to get it fixed fast.

Definitely get this sorted. You don't want it to get worse and possibly cause gum problems.

Yeah, as believed, hydrogen peroxide will do absolutely nothing at all for, well, really anything in your mouth.

She said it's best to go as soon as you can and have it taken care of so it doesn't get worse and lead to potential tooth loss or other issues with infections and such, which is more or less common sense I guess.

She said typically they do a pretty good job having dental students work on you. It's not always the prettiest looking material they use to fill a cavity, but on the other hand for you, you said it's not in a noticeable location. I guess she even had some crowns done by her boy friend (dental student at the time) while she was in college that have lasted up until now, so you can get some quality work done.

I don't know how they'd work it there, but she said at Temple where she went you typically only payed for the materials that they used, since it was all teaching/learning you didn't pay anyone for time.

Oh, she said it may take a bit longer than normal as well since you will be being worked on by students, and sometimes the professor checks things or needs to be show things as they go along, so if you go that route, you might want to ask for a time estimate and plan accordingly.

You have to be available for 3 hours that day, and ALSO come back for appts every other week.

exactly. it cost about $300 to pulled a teeth. and cost like $1k for fixing a teeth.

edit: it's $70 just plain pulled teeth. 300 is with the oral surgeon when i pulled my wisdom teeth

Yeah, it might be cheaper, but then you need to get something made to fill the spot so that other teeth don't start drifting and you end up with a really messed up mouth and jaw because of it.

In the long run, it's cheaper just to get the cavity drilled and filled. Plus then you keep your own tooth, everything looks good, and you don't have to deal with potential problems in the future.

he said it was a wisdom tooth. i think they are expendable for most people.

Yeah, there's really not any room left in the jaw for wisdom teeth, and there's quite a few people born without them any more. To get a wisdom tooth extracted though, it requires a visit to the oral surgeon and either being placed under strong sedation or even being put under for the process.

As long as wisdom teeth aren't affecting the jaw structure by pushing other teeth out of place, there's no issue with leaving them in there, and it's probably cheaper, especially without insurance.
