Facebook telling us who we should see and not?

I saw this on a friends status update:

"What's up with FB telling us what videos we should watch, status updates we should see and what people we should reconnect with?!"

HEard anything about this lately? I heard about this complaint from a few people.

You meant like advertising? Or is it some sort of censorship?

Facebook makes suggestions based off mutual friends, if you've given them access to look at your contact lists in email and IM services, etc. etc.

If you don't want Facebook knowing that much about you, don't frigging give them access. It's that simple. People think they're protected or have some kind of rights, if you voluntarily give up your information, then companies will use it as they see fit.

I let Facebook see my IM lists, most of the people on there I won't add on Facebook anyway. They can stay the devil out of my email contacts though, so I opted out of that.

If people are going to complain, then they need to find something real to complain about, not something that they've given out.

Funny how I wound up using Facebook.....anyone hear of Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup.com

            ??

It's a social networking website where people actually get together at Scheduled events to socialize

Ie - a Mtn biking Meetup, a camping Meetup, a Dinner andSocial Meetup...etc...etc.

People and friends that I had met through the year that I had met in person on Meetup and jumped on the Facebook bandwagon and started using it, and thus I had to use it to stay in touch as well with them.

PLUS, there's even scheduled FACEBook events (like that Rockband pic. I showed of myself on here) A "Rockband/social gathering".

Now here's a question, what reason would you NOT use Facebook or MySpace?

            1. Because I'm too cool for Facebook and/or MySpace, I don't like to be everyone else (kick back James Dean style and smoke a cig.)

            2. Heard bad things about it.

            3. Had a bad experience with it at one time, so cancelled Facebook out altogether

(I was going to say, 4. Have no need for it or no use for it....but that's too easy, too much of a cop-out....that's like saying I have no need or use for the internet, lol)

Facebook is a great tool when it is used for what its intent is (for me)... keeping in touch with people, sharing images and organizing events.

I find that FB has alot of time wasters on it and its really easy to get washed away in them.

For anyone doing local shows and events, its an amazing networking tool. I don't know if I would of had the success I did in theatre and other events if facebook hadn't allowed me to access so many people...typically done through a pyramid style network, but good none the less.

I would not use facebook if its photo sharing or event organization stopped. If its just to keep in touch with local friends, I prefer doing that over a beer at a pub
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
