P.S.: Skud, there are very few "watch dogs" out there, it's just that most people think they can get their dog pissed off and then associate a word to it, and this causes the dog to because aggressive. Properly trained "watch dogs" are not aggressive 99% of the time. I will not address the "license to own a firearm" issue as this is not the proper place, but I will say that I am glad I do not live in a place that requires a license to own/operate a firearm.

OK, thanks, Gene. I wasn't getting too technical on the issue...mostly was just telling a story that I thought related to why ET might want to use caution around the neighbor dog. If it has muscles, canines, and aggression towards me in whatever form, it can be called a kewpie doll and I'll still slug it when it comes at me.

Also, we don't have to have licenses for firearms here, either...but a safety class was necessary at one time or another...which is what I suppose I should have said should be necessary for folks who own dogs that have traditionally been bred to be more aggressive than docile. Was just a thought: trying to think of a way to prevent such needless drama in everyday life.

No problem, Jaspurr. One difficulty in one-way communication (rather than face to face) is the ease at which misunderstandings may occur. I understand what you're saying and am glad that I've explained myself better so that you understand me as well.

The problem is some people just want a dog to have it or just to keep it around for security.
They don't understand we are on this earth and at the top of the food chain for a reason. We have dominion over all animals. When you get a dog, that dog is a part of the family and not just something to have around just in case.
What some people do not realize is when you do this the dog actually becomes and feels part of the family in their mind. There is still the alpha male, etc. and you train them that way.
When an animal forms a bond to a family it will protect and guard that family much more reliably. It will not necessarily be aggressive to everyone that comes around either. Just the opposite actually, at least in my bread the golden retreiver, they actually start to pic out the people that aren't trust worthy, some thing isn't right with them, dont' like animals, etc.
I love my Daisy and when she barks, I listen. But when the time comes or if she went rabid, I'll put her down myself because that's my job as her alpha.

@ET, You really probably should same something. I'm not going to say you definetly should because you are in the situation and only you know if it's really something that needs attention and should stop.

If you do talk to them plan it out first. Create a plan of action for the owner becoming hostile, cooperative, combative, etc.
When you approach them, do it will an open mind and don't expect anything but remember you plans. Be very humble and polite and above all honest. Don't say anything to put them on the defensive if possible.
