    All Nighters

So I'm pulling an "all nighter" to start and finish a project for one of my classes because I've been so busy with other classes that I haven't even had time to work on this one even though we've had over a week to do it. On top of that, I realized tonight when I went to start the project that I apparently never got back from my professor a sheet of paper (previous phase of the project) with some information I had collected in preparation for this phase of the project that would have saved me a lot of time. Today, my professors are going to be reviewing what's on the final exams next week so it's not a good day to be going to school on no sleep, but I don't really have a choice. I gotta do what I gotta do.

Anyways, the point of me posting this isn't really to complain. I'm curious about the rest of you guys' stories of when you had to pull all nighters to get some kind of work done (Pwning noobs doesn't count as work )

How long did you go without sleep? Did you have to work the next day on little to no sleep? Did any of your daily activities suffer as a result of the loss of sleep?
    Ahhh...the power of cheese!

The longest for me was 3 days. And it was that long only because I was so over tired I could not go to sleep.
Now get back to your studies.

The most I have gone was 36 hours and that was well after my college years.

I did 3 days of no sleeping once because I had to prepare some classes (I tutored in college), and it was also close to finals lol. I ended up falling to sleep while sitting or even when I was eating.

Though the worst part of no sleep times was when I was in design college, I had to sleep less than 2 hours per day or so, to be able to finish up so many projects. Like, write an 30 pages essay about mmos, prepare a board game (game play, rules, the board, pieces, box, EVERYTHING), make 15 characters models, and so on..... =( it lasted idk, 2 months or so, it was terrible hahaha.

I usually avoid all nighters and just sleep! My record and most horrible experience was 2 days. It was finals week and I just contracted the stomach flu, there was no sleeping even when I wanted to.

Good luck on finals cheese! I'll be enjoying my take home calc 2 test today

I only had to pull one true all-nighter in college, but being in architecture school I had a great many 5am bedtimes when on deadline.

The one all-nighter was to complete some lame journal project that I didn't work on at all during the semester, perhaps even forgetting about it until the day before it was due. Got that done, went to classes, and on the second class noticed that I was falling asleep--my notes from that day show that I literally fell asleep while writing single words: I was missing letters in the middle of words.

I went back to the dorm and crashed right after that.

I pulled an optional all-nighter on a few other occassions. Some in high school to crash some youth group outings with friends, and at least one during a college break where I then went to see the awesome double-feature of Heat and 12 Monkeys on their release week. I managed to stay awake closer to 36 hours that time.

Mine wasn't because of work but because of my son having surgery. Back in Jan he had his tibia and fibula in both legs broken and reset. The day he had surgery, of course he slept all day but come 2 a.m. he was wide awake. He wasn't in pain, he had an epidural but he couldn't get comfortable and couldn't make up his mind about what he wanted. The next day, he had a ton of visitors. Come the early evening, he slept just enough to were he wouldn't sleep that night. I went for 2 nights and 3 days without sleep since I stayed up there the whole time with him. When we got him home at like 3, I crashed and never woke up till around noon the next day. I was very thankful it was a Sat.

Of course he is!! He's a trooper. It's not the first time he's had it done and more then likely not the last time either. His cerebral palsy causes tight muscle tone. Regardless of how much PT he does, the muscles pull tight on his legs and end up twisting them. There is no other way to fix them other then to break and reset them.

Oh man... the last one that came to mind was the grand opening of TopShop here in NYC. We covered the event all the way from Saturday to Thursday night non-stop. Friday we even had result videos due. The heavy workload started on Tuesday morning working 20+ hour days for three days (Tue, Wed & Thurs). Friday, I could no longer think clearly so I had to leave early. Worst part is, I had someone coming to visit me and I could not spend time with that person. Spent my whole weekend in bed and did not recover fully until mid next week.

Probably the best, not the longest, one I remember was during one of our contracts "let's squeeze 2 years into one" periods. We went about a little over a year of performing an average of about 80 to 85 hour work weeks, 7 days a week. Literally, we only saw daylight 3 days during this time; Christmas day, thanksgiving and valentines day. No anniversary, no birthday, etc.

Well one day late afternoon, early evening one of our glorious coders{aka developers } had completed their security lockdowns COE segment and promoted to SCM and we started installing. During the install everything seemed fine and during out test process, deinstall is part of the test. Well, do you see where I"m going with this ? During the de-install, and this was on a weblogic server that had our repository mapped mind you, I started seeing the files fly by and /h/data/global caught my eye while in combination with the words removing. Holy crap, I started yelling and cussing while hitting CTRL+C and the other guys came running over. Well, to make a long story short, we had to rebuild the server and restore the repository which we worked on all night and I think until about 1300 the next day. So with this one it was probably about a 32 hour day.
Like I said, this wasn't the only all nighter within this year and management had some serious stiffy over our long hours, but this whole thing was a major contributor to my burn out. I'm still recovering and this was 2003 to 2005 timeframe.

I think the longest one was in my party days
