We now live in a more violent and judgemental world and it was not like anything when I was growing up and the same for those who were born before me. Believe it or not my daughter AKA Pidgeot_Girl who is in 7th grade along with her class mates has to be drug tested. Kids are under more stress and per pressure in these days unlike myself I did not have to go through what she has to. Everybody is always looking to sue somebody for that quick cash. People are a hell of alot more impatient than ever before and people do not value human life. I wish I could turn back the clock and be living and raising a family back then. But we can not so we just have to put up with all the crap in todays world.

For our kids, this is the status quo, so they don't know the difference.

It is much harder I think for those of us that grew up that way to accept the way things have changed.

Todd, it's rediculous that the school drug tests your children. I would refuse on sheer principle. They don't have the right to get that far into your business. It is the parent's job to raise the kids, not the school.

My grandpa talks about carrying a pocketknife to school and cleaning his finger nails with it in the middle of class. I remember a few times accidently taking a pocketknife to school and being death afraid someone would learn about it and a teacher would find out and I'd get out of school suspension for a week. I did it in today's age and someone found out, I'd be arrested to start off with, and who knows what charges against me or my parents. It's freaking insane.

                    lol on a side note
6 years ago all these rules were still in effect yet for a class we had to do a presentation so i got permission to bring in a hunting bow and shoot it at a target outside of the class room
this bow is strong enough to bring down a deer

at the same time a student was forbidden to do a report on firearms saftey (without actual guns just pictures).

i guess i dont see the logic
ps i agree that all the junk like this today is absolute bs

I agree with some of the statements but, sometimes...the whining gets to me. Times change and no not all of it is bad. Although the story of the bow and gun school thing reminded me of something.

If you ask people today which is a more dangerous home for children

                        a. A home with a firearm

                        or

                        b. A home with a pool

An independent study found out that most people said the home with a firearm. Statistically speaking however, the home with a pool is far more dangerous by like a factor of 5.

I find that even though hard to believe that a pool is more dangerous than a loaded gun in the house hold! I guess if you had a choice if you where staring down the barrel of a gun if the pool was still as dangerous?

Pool is more dangerous because even if you have a fence around it, it's big and a kid will notice it and eventually find a way through or over the fence. In which case they can fall in and drown.

A responsible firearm owner will have the firearm locked in a safe or cabinet, ammunition either on a high shelf in said container, and children really have no need to even know it's there. In the case of a handgun, even if kept in at bedside, which is stupid in any case, should not be kept loaded or with the ammunition by it.
