Still no power or cable modem here. We got about 1/4" of ice overnight, lightly snowing now. 13,000 homes with no power in my county, 21,000 the next county over.

I'm going out to snowblow .. the neighborhood smells and sounds of small engines buzzing and humming. Its time to grunt, fire up my 6hp weapon of mass blowage and join the manly men in their quest to fight back at Mother Nature.

Oh if a man tried to take his time on Earth and prove before he died what one man's life could be worth, well I wonder what would happen to this world ? - Harry Chapin
Dammit, my snowblower (tank tread unit) slipped both tracks. I spent the last hour fixing the right side, now the left slipped off. OMG, I am p#@% off right now.
I came inside and heard on the news that my town has banned driving in the city.
Remember the 3.5" thick power line ?? It's now 6" thick:

The official fall for Bowie right now is 19", with 5+ to come. BWI Thurgood Marshall airport is going to pass the all-time recorded high within the hour for Maryland and Governor O'Malley has said he is strongly considering shutting down all state roads. The Wizards game is postponed, and the Postal Service? They are closed today. "Neither rain nor snow...?" Not today.
I haven't gone outside yet; right now we're in about a 2"/hour fall with 30MPH gusts. I'll let you know what our outside totals are. We've been taking pictures, but they won't be posted until later.
217,000 without power in the DC region--that's got to suck. We had a flicker where we lost everything for about a second last night, but I'm glad we have underground lines in my neighborhood.
A surprising number of people are out shoveling out. Probably a fair time for that--push as much as you can into the road before the next plow comes to completely bury the car. May have to do that before today is out, even with another half foot to come.
Apache will send a virtual Valentine's Day card to the winner of the contest !!

They're coming right now. I'm not going to caption them, but you'll see:
-Our cars about 2 hours after start, and yesterday at noon. My car just came from our mailbox--our entrance to my street is the other way.
-My front door at noon. Yes, that is part of our bush under the snow.
-Street scene before and after
-My back fence, with snow less than a foot from a latch mounted about 4 feet up
-Me between cars, throwing snow at the camera
-Me sitting in the snow
-My wife after I plowed her into the snow with a tackle
-Measurements of the front yard and near the bottom of a slope in our common space
-The narrow trench leading to the cars
-Natural light nighttime during the heart of the storm
-Our back yard furniture
Here you go:
Huh, interesting. I just tried to post two comparison shots from December as a repost and found 15 image limit. The next post will have those two.
The Blizzard of 2010 is easily the most snow in my lifetime--almost 34 years in Maryland. While DC measures at Reagan National now, which is at sea level next to the Potomac which keeps totals down, everywhere else even in the city is basically at number 1 or at worst number 2 behind the 1922 Knickerbocker storm of 26 inches (not at Reagan National). So this is probably the worst storm in anyone's lifetime around these parts.

Old Yeller was a 1982 Toyota PU with 4.5" of suspension lift and 33" BFG Mud Terrain tires. With 145k on the odometer, its days were numbered in this pic, but it was like a reliable friend when the weather was lousy.
Well, I finally made my back to the lair! I hope fortune has blessed everyone this new year! I've got some updates, dad (Todd98 )is over 60....yall send...
