You definitely want to see the Opera House.
Ask around and find a good park with some Roos there are very interesting to watch.
Then make sure to try some Vegemite on your toast. Guarantee it's a taste you'll remember
Do some walking around the Royal Botanic Gardens area beside the opera house.
Also there is a quarantine station some where around the harbor that is suppose to be haunted. I wish I would have known about it when I was there.
Oh and when you go looking for Roos don't approach the Big Reds The guys told us about one guy in the local area around Canberra and this Big Red Roo that came up to the door knocked somehow and when he opened the door it proceeded to put a serious butt whooping on him. I was dieing when they told me that one because I could just picture this huge red Roo with boxing gloves on. ROFL
The best recommendation I can give you is since you're going to be there 6 weeks if you get the chance, just jump in the car and go checkout stuff and I hope you have a GPS
And don't forget to to pick you up a Didgeridoo

I've had both marmite and veggemite. Both are...interesting.
We actually had a meet up with people from another forum a few years ago in Toronto. Some people from the UK brought over marmite and challenged people to eat it. We took pics. Was really funny.
I think it tastes like highly concentrated soy sauce[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.
So all you get is this crappy text]

"Vegemite is one of the world's richest known sources of B vitamins, specifically thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and folic acid, but unlike Marmite and some other yeast extracts, it contains no vitamin B12."
