WT heads off to the woods this weekend

It may no be the best weekend weather-wise to go for a ride, but I will be leaving Friday to go for a ride at Snow Show Rail Trail, which features a tunnel and trestle bridge to cross.

    http://www.stoplandfill.com/images/viaduct.jpg

I had a ride earlier this year and it became clear in a hurry that last year's rear tires were not getting it done. I was the only guy to get stuck on that ride, so I bought some good tires that assure I won't get hung up on this ride:

Now that there is a diggin' tire, Timmy !! I pity the guy behind me when I get to that first muddy puddle !!

I'll post some pics from the ride on Monday and give you an idea of how dirty you can get.

Kick the tires and light the fires comes to mind. Looks fun though!

Wife's been after me for years to get one. We don't have much in the way of decent areas around here to go crazy on like that.

Wish we did, as the nearest dunes for it is 2 hours away.

That doesn't look like any fun at all.

Hah, funny you should mention that !! Its a looong way down to the river, WITH NO GUARDRAIL ON THAT ONE SIDE. No one has ever fallen off, but there are some riders going along that refuse to go over that bridge.

I viewed a ride video that a friend posted and he drives across and looks down into the river as he goes across. I get vertigo watching it, as the 3D effect of the camera pan makes it feel like he's riding right on the edge of the rails.

Not too worried about trees .. its other guys on quads that scare you when its 20+ on a trail. Add to that the fact that this is an advertised ride with a dinner and it may be a very large turnout.

                Update:

Got back late yesterday from the weekend ride. Saturday turned out to be MUCH worse than what the weather forecaster said .. 58? with a 30% chance of rain ?? Pshhh, how about *SLEET* instead and a high of 40? with blowing wind ? Amazingly, I was well dressed and was never really cold. The same cannot be said for a few others in my group who froze like a popsicle and refused to answer the after lunch riding bell, comfortable to sit in the parking lot in the truck with the heat blowing full blast. We never did get to the hosted spaghetti dinner ... too many riders already there. The parking lot had at LEAST 70 quads in it .. so we ate sandwiches and got back on the trail quickly.

Sunday was much nicer, still no sun and nowhere near 58?, but it was 42? and somewhat sunny around lunch. We got in a lot of exploring and everyone had a lot better day than Saturday. Tons of trails, and we hardly scratched the surface of what was there to explore. There is a chicken BBQ dinner in July, so I'm almost sure we will be back there over a weekend for that ride too. At one point, you can ride your quad on the streets in town off the trailhead and eat at a few places right in town. Very cool, and met a lot of guys from the ATV forums that are as nice in person as they are to chat with online.

Ohh, obligatory pics of said ride:

A hill climb right under the Route 80 highway. You could ride to the top and watch the vehicles drive by on both sides.

The tunnel was the highlight for most of the guys ... get in there and hit the throttle !! It echoed like a tin can.

The trestle bridge .. its wide open on one side and a loooong way down.

A man made small pond which we found was quite muddy on one side.

Rest of the pics here - http://www.wtslair.com/Pics/warrior/SSRT10/

                    Iphone ??? Duuuude ...

The day I buy a Mac product is the day the Earth stands still. I may like technology, but not ALL technology, especially something that rolls everything into one. I have a touchscreen Palm M130 thats like 8 years old and it is perfect for my needs. My wife pays $80+ a month for her damn Ipod data plan. Let us not even go there ...

Going again in two weeks !! This is an area offering 22,000 acres 1.5 hours north of me. I gotta get a GPS so I don't get lost !

                      what?!?!

You haven't converted to the fad that is macism yet? Are you not a believer in all that is mac?

Have faith my brother! and let Steve jobs deliver you from that which is a life that only apple can deliver. Let us all sit around in a big circle and and give each other a good Mac rub...

Ok, so i threw up a little in my mouth just saying that, and full blown gastro-evacuation by actually typing it.

is this like a guys outing?

now... 1.5 hours north.... that'd put you near... harrisburg?

besides... outdoors. soo much.. fresh air... and sunlight..... where are the photos of you having fun?

Harrisburg is only 30 minutes north of WT if he's not driving like an old woman Looks like a fun ride sir!

And I forget what school you work for/at...which is it again? I'm dating a girl who's student teaching at Northeastern right now, which I don't think is correct, but I've been down in your neck of the woods a lot recently, she lives pretty close to the West Manchester Mall depending on how well you know that part of York.

Darth, you will not believe this, but I checked my work email today and found this:

                          Michael:

You were the winner of the 8G iPod Touch donated by Infortrend at our Tech Event on Friday. I need to provide to them your address and phone number as they will ship this to you.

Unbelievable. Well, I guess I hafta accept it and become a Macaholic. Can you play MP3s on the damn thing ?? Oh, and as far as pics of ME having fun. No one else in my group is anywhere near a PC nerd, so no one offered to snap any pics of me. I've been riding for about 9 months now and don't have a single action shot of me in motion on the quad.

Troop, I am about 10 minutes south of the W. Manchester Mall. Its a quick trip for me, but I rarely go to the Mall anymore, but I know the area semi-well.

The next ride will be in Pottsville. Only issue is parking, as we hafta park in a Walmart parking lot to ride. I paid $100 for a yearly permit to ride, but there aren't any trailheads with parking nearby !!!

                            Proof.

Steve Jobs is watching. The Mac cult is everywhere.... Now to find the Mole on Cain's Lair.....

IUts funny. I have a friend who used to live in pottsville. She just moved to harrisburg where she works, hence the reference.

What a small, ODD world we line in.
