If you bought this machete, its being recalled... you may cut yourself!

    Really! http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10157.html

The Gator Machete by Gerber Legendary Blades and the Gator Jr. are both being recalled because if you saw with them, you may cut yourself.

    You know...

Its really sad they do a product recall on a machete because you can cut yourself with it.

    Don't tell the sniper.

ROFL, oh man, I've heard it all now. It cracks me up idiots feel the need to tell manufacturers their product is defective because their are too stupid to figure it out by looking at it.

Damn, I may have to return my sword.
And every gun has to be recalled because you could shoot yourself with it.

          Rofl.

Incidents/Injuries: Gerber has received five reports of individuals cutting themselves while using the Gator Machete, all of whom required stitches. Gerber has received no reports of injuries associated with use of the Gator Machete Jr.
          Lmao.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled machetes immediately and contact Gerber to receive instructions on how to return the machete for a free replacement machete.
So does the replacement machete have a butterknife's keen edge to prevent injury?

They send them a plastic spork to replace it with.

The problem with this thing is the handle. It should have a part that would prevent you hand form slipping. This is a poorly designed tool but I don't know who is more stupid the people buying it or the people who designed it.

They are being recalled because they can cut you if you saw with them. The last time I looked, a machete was not designed to be used as a saw. A machete is used for cutting. If your hand slips while using it as it was designed, your hand would slip off toward the back. The only way your hand would slip forward is if you were thrusting with your machete. If it was designed for thrusting it would have a guard above the handle.
I do not think tools should be recalled because of the stupidity of the the person using it. Oh, excuse me, I meant if it was being used in a fashion it was not designed for.

This is from the product description. Anything with a high performance saw blade should have been designed with some sort of protection form slippage.

                    Gator Machete

The Gator Machete wields a 15 inch fine edge blade on one side, a 18 inch high performance saw blade on the other, and our proprietary Gator rubber grip for ergonomic control while using either. The riveted, nylon sheath provides safe, durable transport.
