I know this is a long shot but..

Does anyone here know of anyone who has ever used Accutane? It's a prescription medication for acne. I've seen a lot on t.v. to where there's the lawsuits pending but in the same sense, you always hear the bad and never the good.

I know there's side effects but with all medications there are.

Anyways, my oldest has had a big problem with acne for at least two years now. He's been on just about everything. For the last two years he's been on Minocyclin and I recently found out that it can cause lupus. Since I was just diagnosed w/ it, we had asked the Dr if there was something else. Braiden has been on it for at last two years now. The Dr said we would just use it intermittently and then he decided to go w/ the Accutane since he has been using it for so long and we aren't seeing any results.

So if anyone has any info to offer, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm not on it but here is info from drugs.com (the source is fine, it actually pulls from the Multum drug database which my company owns )

It is in the category of drugs known to cause birth defects. Also on that list some other common ones are propecia and proscar (both finasteride) so that is something to keep in mind. I donated blood yesterday and they specifically asked if you were on one of those drugs.

Overall you might have to judge the risk / reward of it. Another site here provides info along with some info about how well it works. The author has a little bias since he was on said medicine but the author backs up the info with citations.

I don't have any help here but anecdote.

My older brother took it for awhile (don't know the exact length) and it was very successful. He had blood tests every few weeks to check his liver and kidneys (since the medication can be very rough on those organs), but it wasn't a big deal.

I know a few people who have used it and it worked fine.

My brother in law had a horrible experience with it. Acutane will dry out your skin...severely. Your doctor should give you a series of things to do to keep your skin hydrated properly. My brother in law has exzema (sp?) and other skin problems, used acutane, and didnt hydrate his skin and ended up in the hospital.

Its a fine drug to use, as long as your doctor knows about any other conditions you may have and you follow their orders to a teeeeee
[this is where my funky sig would go. But I don't have one.

My advice is either go to your local pharmaecy and ask the pharmacist, or go to a GNC or similar store and ask the people their thats how i found a good thermogenic to use

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
