Perfect game negated by blown call

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...html?eref=sihp

Ouch! I'm not a big follower of baseball anymore, but I know that this had to hurt! And the pitcher was the one who made the catch! That really sucks.

Detroit general manager Dave Dombrowski had said the team wouldn't ask MLB to overturn the call. The mistake denied Galarraga the first perfect game in Tigers history, and the 21st for MLB.

I saw that on the news... it wasn't even close.

You have to admire the way the pitcher and Umpire handled themselves.
Unfortunately the commissioner refused to over turn the call.

Sucks to be the pitcher, but in any game where you have humans giving a split second decision, you will have mistakes. This one is just blown bigger than the others because its a perfect game. Shiat happens.

And besides, its baseball, its just as much of a "sport" as synchronized swimming.

I would respectfully disagree, based on the difficulty of hitting a ball thrown at you at 90 MPH. Add in that you only have a split second to judge, and it is nearly impossible without tons of practice.

I do not play baseball, never have and never will, but I enjoy watching the strategy involved. It is a shame such an accomplishment was nullified by a blown call - but hey we're all human.

I haven't watched it since I was a kid...last game I went to was when I drove tour bus out west, took a group to a Rockies game and sat in the sun for about 1.5 innings: ball, strike, ball, etc., before going back to the bus to rest for the drive back and get out of the mile high sun. It's really not too exciting anymore.

However, not just hitting the ball, but to throw a ball at 90+ miles per hour and consistently get it into that (approx) 18 inch window, even without throwing curves, sliders, sinkers, etc. into the equation is no small task.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
