    New Toy

Just got one of these. I'm so excited!

    EOS Digital Rebel T1i

I've been wanting a DSLR for years. My previous camera was a Fujifilm S5000, which servered me well for about seven years, was a pretty decent point-and-shoot.

Christmas 2008 I got my wife a nice Nikon Coolpix and told her that I was officially retiring as the familiy photographer. Well, that hasn't worked out so well. Sure, we acutally have some pictures with ME in them now but my wife can't understand the concept of carrying an extra set of AA batteries at ALL TIMES. Last time this happened was a few weeks ago at our daughters kindergarten graduation... "battery exhausted" message. Luckily my dad was there with his camera. So, we need to let her go and I need to come out of retirement now.

I used to be into photography as a hobby big time in high school and my early 20's and still have a Canon AE-1 SLR from that era. Last time I knocked the dust off of it was back in 2001 when I did an NC Outerbanks Lighthouse tour. I still have a couple of prints from that trip framed and hanging in my bathroom. I'm really looking forward to getting back into this hobby now.

We're taking our family vaction in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach, NC next week, hopefully I can get some good shots to share.

    Nice.

My wife got me a Rebel Digital Xti last year, and it's awesome. The only problem is I had a 100-300mm lens for my old film Rebel, and it doesn't want to communicate properly with the digital one. It works sometimes, but usually not. This means I'll have to go buy another good zoom lens.

Awesome, ObiTroy! I've heard nothing but great things about the Canons (ask BigTwinky [if I'm not mistaken]). A friend on mine has one and loves it: he's sent me some amazing shots! Can't wait to see some pics, man!

Canon makes great cameras. I have a Canon 30D and love it. And make sure you purchase quality lenses. you may pay a little more for them but, you can tell the difference in picture quality.
A fun field to get into is macro photography. I started doing macro because of my jewelry business and have gotten to love it.

I have a brand loyalty to Canon as well. The AE-1 SLR I have was purchased by my dad in 1982. He handed it down to me in 1987 and it still works well (or did in 2001 anyway).

I could not find a bad review on the T1i. It was a tossup between this and the T2i... all the professional reviews I read said to go the the T1 and use the saved money for another lens.

Now... it didn't come with an SD card so I 'borrowed' the one from my wife's camera for now. Maybe Skud or Twink could recommend a good one to save me the research time... something fast.

Here's the first picture I took with it, my daughter's weed head cat.

Here's a few pics from our vacation. I got some good shots at the aquarium, could have gotten some better ones but don't have a polarizing filter yet . It's on my list to get one.

This isn't a great shot... I just thought it was TF2-ish. This was on the battleship USS North Carolina. That had these lights all over the place. Blue forged into the metal, painted Red with a red bulb.

We took a ferry from Fort Fisher to Southport, NC... I thougt the GPS reading was neat, out in the middle of the sound.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
