Former F1 engineer unveils new city car

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/innovat...ex.html?hpt=C2

Kind of cool. Costs less than most motorcycles, and gets about the same mileage (78 mpg). (I don't know that I'd want to ride in back though, lol)

American drivers are too dangerous for these kind of ultra-tiny cars. My first thought every time I see one of the Smart cars is that they'd pop like an over-ripe melon if they were in an accident. Wouldn't be anything left but a two-foot thick chunk of crushed metal.

No different than a cycle (are drivers safe anywhere?), except you could drive it in winter months.

And, yeah, I saw a Smart car that got hit in an intersection by a Ford Probe, 35 mph zone. Not sure what happened to the driver, but one of the roof supports was pretty much tangled into the driver's seat--it didn't roll, though, surprisingly...and even the Probe was flattened to the ground. I asked one of the cops at the scene (my bus couldn't make it through the parking lot they were detouring traffic through [unless I wanted to take out their shrubbery]) how the driver was. He didn't know, got there just after they took him/her to the hospital. I guess, though, the thing is that like always, you have to predict/drive defensively...a little more so in cycles or these little cars. After tens of thousands of hours on the road, one can see most of this stuff coming...have to think for everyone else, it seems.

I think it is kind of cool for putting around town but don't think I'd get out on the interstate in one.

Probably slightly safter then my Harley but folks can at least HEAR me coming on that.

As much as I tend to agree we're both wrong. NHSIT statistics show that Americans are safer drivers as compared to anyone else

Yeah, a large percentage of humans in any country are less than sensible when it comes to driving, and many other things. Like I said, it's up to the ones who pay attention to think for the rest.

I didn't say we were worse than everyone else. Just that we're too dangerous.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
