Apple Iphone problem worse than it looks?

The problem, Apple said, is with how the phone displays the bars.

And, astonishingly, for a company that obsesses over every detail of its products, Apple said this problem existed with older versions of the iPhone and had gone undetected for at least two years if not more.

And the problem, it said, is that sometimes the iPhone 4 shows more reception than users are actually enjoying.

?Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong,? Apple said in the letter. ?Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength.?

So basically folks who were complaining about bad reception are actually getting worse reception than they think, lol.

Apple said that within a few weeks it will deploy new software that uses a new formula, devised by its often maligned partner, AT&T, for displaying bars. "The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone?s bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area," Apple said.

And now AT&T will devise the software so that...wait, won't they just make it so it looks like it has better reception than it does again, to make their shoddy network look good?!!!

Two things pop to mind

1. AT&T has been slammed by iPhone users over the last few years talking about they're bad network
2. Apple effectively pushed the blame again on to AT&T

I'm still using my generation 2 iphone and love it. I probably wont upgrade to another though. There are better out there now.

Yeah it's a blame game. I don't blame the phone. It's actually a great product. I blame Steve and AT&T for making the deal with the devil (each other)

I should note though, that I got my wife the iTouch over a year ago and I used it the other day to upgrade to the iOS4. Man after using the Andoid 2.1 OS on my HTC Hero I just can't go back to the interface on the iTouch or iPhone.
The only thing really lacking on the Android is the Market and the quality app designers are being slow to get their apps on the Android.

Thoughts on Flash
It's really silly all around, flash isn't that wonderful IMO, but it is a common component of the current web environment. Thus this decision cripples their products in favor of what they hope may eventually replace flash, long after iPhone 4 is obsolete.

The competition (Android based phones) isn't really shipping products with flash yet either, but it's in the final stages of development, coming along with 2.2 Froyo to the Motorola Droid and shortly thereafter to Droid X, with other manufacturers still planning their respective roll-outs.

My son got the Iphone 4. His Iphone 3 had a cracked screen so he upgraded. It has a flash.

I think he doesn't know his son has his iPhone jailbroken or if he's talking about Camera flash. Does the iPhone even has a camera flash? Maybe it's time for the old people home

yeah there are 2 versions of the word "flash" being discussed here LOL

1. The Macromedia/Adobe plugin used for games and other web video or animation (DARK4SE)

2. Bright light that turns on for a very short time in order to provide illumination for a picture. (Apache)
